My daughter noticed my cargo light was on. I went in and checked everything, nothing was wrong or helped. Disconnected my battery. Brought it to the dealership. They called back hours later and told me my carpet was soaked under my floor mat. They also told me my drain tubes from sun roof were ok. At this point we are 588.00 into it. Called me today and said my drain plugs were clogged and that was where the water came from(red flag). Need new cargo light switch, two harnesses, carpet and new total 13,000.00. My truck is a 2017 with 36,000 miles on it. Sunroof is hardly ever used. I told them this and they said dust and moisture can plug them. I told them that I didn’t think they have found where it’s leaking. My extended warranty does not cover water damage. I have to run this thru my auto insurance and they may not cover this. Hope your having a better week.

I would drive it home, dry it out and start looking for the real cause of the leak. Or take it elsewhere for a second opinion.

It’s certainly not uncommon for drain holes to clog. If you think that’s not the problem, take the truck home and leave a garden hose run on it and look for signs of water. That’s what we do looking for leaks in the dealership

Any chance this has anything to do with the recall on the third brake light leaking?? It would make sense to A)cause the cargo light to go on, and then B)have that water seep down into the rear carpet area.

I would take a hard look at that as it’s a known recall being actively addressed

I really hope that’s the case for you, good luck

Can confirm, VW even had a recall because of shitty sunroof drains.

I took my 2017 Limited in for service 2 weeks ago, they said they would also fix the third brake light recall. I believe they just used silicone around the perimeter. You might check if this is your cause.

There is a recall/whatever for the leaky third brake light. Did they mention anything about the light or the service campaign?

I'd light my truck on fire and drive it off a bridge before I would ever pay 13k. Just to put things in perspective.

All sunroofs leak but it is accounted for by a channel which directs it to drains in the corners. Visually inspect them for clogging. But my guess would be that 3rd brake light before the sunroof, especially if you hardly use the sunroof for them to get clogged in the first place.

So here is the deal. Call your insurance company. It IS covered. Sunroof drains do get clogged. I have written so many claims as an adjuster over the years for water damage from this exact thing you would be surprised. Believe it or not, mostly Mercedes.

13k is possibly. The carpet needs to go or will mold and smell. Anything with a fabric needs to be cleaned or replaced. Harnesses need cleaning and electric grease. Modules may need replace. Even if it is working now. Things may stop weeks down the road if it got wet.

The insurance company will cover everything less deductible, possibly depreciation on replaced parts like a rug, and repair to the actual water leak. Which is usually just the shop putting air hose to the drains and blowing them out

So glad I didn't get a sun roof lol. Had this happen on a Honda I used to own. Learned my lesson then, no sun roofs in a state that rains alot
