Not old enough to really be worth anything. For basically having no miles on it, it’s not in really that great of condition.

There’s a buyer for everything though

Well over new price already. I just priced an SR5 Access cab 4cyl 4wd and it was $33,225 on toyota's website and thats way more truck than that old 93

but the new one sure doesn't let you do your own shifting o_O

Exactly, @ 84 miles you would expect perfection, especially the way bidding is going.

I was using around $40,000 as more average price of a new Tacoma, not the rock bottom cheapest one you could purchase.

I'm sure the buyer was going to give much more that that. The highest bidder put 45 to his autobid, and did not have a chance to react when the winning guy place his bid just five seconds before the action end (quite common technique on ebay).
    upload_2021-9-24_12-44-39.jpg

It was fun to watch bidding psychology:
    - 7**y guy put his bid 42.5K this morning,
    - about one hour before the end r**9 came in with his bid at 45k (but of course the price came to 42.6).
    - 7**y guy got outbid but I'm sure he decided he is going to get the truck no matter what.
    - So just 5 seconds before the end he must put way over 45k (I don't know, 50 or 60) to be sure to outbid the other guy. He had only one chance to do that so I'm sure he put whatever he had and more. I suspect that if r**9 guy would make his bid at 50k, the truck would go to 7**y for 50.1 anyway.

The Ebay bidding sometimes is fun to watch imagining what is going through their mind. It is completely different than live auction. I used to buy used stuff on ebay and with the right mindset, discipline and good bidding technique I could get some good stuff very cheap. But now I'm to old, and to lazy for that $#it.

The 10 watchers for that auction are close relatives to the famous P. T. Barnum, seeing his famous quote at work and if it will become reality.

If I wanted a good reliable truck with low miles, and I had $40k sitting around, I'd buy a brand new one with a factory warranty. At least I'd get a CD player and bucket seats.

This is a poverty spec pickup truck with bench seats and steel wheels.

That's like spending $100 for a pint of Safeway brand vanilla ice cream.

This Toyota is considered a " Barn find " and are worth alot money to collectors or car enthusiasts

Definition of a Barn find ...

A barn find is a classic car, aircraft or motorcycle that has been rediscovered after being stored, often in derelict condition. The term comes from their tendency to be found in places such as barns, sheds, carports and outbuildings where they have been stored for many years.

Final price was $45,100. That's absolutely insane. For that price you could by a brand new Tacoma with about 5 miles on it and park in a shed and wait 30 years. LOL

Barn finds can be worth alot of money , quite a few years ago someone found a Baldwin Motion 69 Camaro in a garage sitting untouched for near 30 years . This Camaro untouched has been appraised at over $400k

I should watch that auction to see any fool ever bids on it. How in the world does adding a supercharger, lift and bunch of other bolt on parts add up to $80K?

The car has to be unique or rare though. My 88 YJ sat in a barn for 20+ years. It’s worth about what I paid for it plus inflation.

Just for shits and giggles I run the car value on kbb:

    upload_2021-9-24_14-28-0.jpg

So if it is wrecked on the way home, the insurance will pay 1/10 if the ebay price?

The price is pretty wild especially considering the rust and the fact that it sat for multiple decades. That it needed a new fuel tank and fuel pump just goes to show that vehicles don't do well sitting for long periods.

The ice cream metaphor is a bit off though, at least as I think about it. There aren't auction yards filled with 30 year old Toyotas with <100 miles that anyone can just buy. The scarcity of low mileage examples is driving the price here, whoever bought this I'm sure thinks this is an investment. You could say it's a bad investment, or that they paid too much for the trim, and I'd agree. This truck will probably just sit in the barn of a rich guy somewhere collecting dust waiting to be sold again.

By the way KBB said my 1995 Tacoma with 338k miles is worth the same. I think I should put it on ebay with starting price 35k and see if it gets to 45k
