Anyone in northern virginia in the market for a new kettle? Looking to get rid of 2 kettles. Both are BruGear. One is a 15gallon and one is a 10gallon. Both have volume markings, 2 welded tri clamp fittings, a trip clamp pickup tube, a 3 piece ball valve, a weldless whirlpool arm and a lid. They also come with camlocks on the ball valves and whirpool arms, and a thermometer.. They have served me well. They probably need to have a pbw cycle run through them to clean them up. Let me know if anyone is interested. Looking for $200 and $175, or $350 for both, but open to reasonable offers.

 

Need some help.

I love beer but I have a beer allergy. I get canker sores, really tired, and my hands swell. The only beer that I've found that I'm ok with is guineas. IPA as delicious as they are, are the worst. Light beers like coolers light are not as bad but still a problem.

Any guesses on what ingredient or ingredients are the cause?

 

IPAs are built on hops, so that’s a possibility. Most here are wheat based, so that too.
Guinness is Barley based, so that may explain potential differences. I think coors light is also a barley.
Hops is typically part of all varieties, but varies with stage, method, concentration and types.

Mid-Autumn Festival dinner at our favourite Cantonese restaurant last night. Typical HK mafia group, 12 people crammed around a table that would normally seat 8, enough food for 20.

There is a very good reason why every white guy in Vancouver that is married to an Asian woman (which would be about half of them, this being Vancouver, the mixed marriage capital of the world and all) is comfortably chubby (see: fat). I suspect the food is a means to an end, though...something to do with generous life insurance policies I am sure.

Food was amazing, as always...they do a local-garlic-local-hot-pepper-deep-fried-local-Dungeness-crab that is out of this world. And a local-garlic-local-hot-pepper-deep-fried-local-free-range-chicken as well. Of course, we had to have both, cuz one high cholesterol, high fat, life-insurance-friendly but incredible main course would simply never do.

And we actually had TWO crab dishes.

Of course we did.

So, the food is wonderful.

But....

We live in the Craft Beer capital of Canada, with such incredible offerings. But what are the choices here?

Molson....Canada's answer to PBR. Sigh. For which I apologize.

And Tsingtao...tastes a bit like skunk cabbage.

As an aside, a couple random, irrelevant and potentially annoying stats....Snow beer, a rather nice lager (crisp, clean, refreshing, if a tad weak, and cheap - on the order of C$1.00 for a 750 ml bottle, and often free with dinner in restaurants) is the most popular beer in China and the most drunk (drank?) by volume on the planet. SABMiller likes to brag that in 2012 it sold enough Snow beer to fill 12 Olympic-sized swimming pools every day for a year. And it is not exported. Anywhere. That means that Chinese beer lovers are making us Canadians - and our American brothers and sisters - look bad.

Tsingtao is the fourth or fifth most popular beer in the world. Which simply demonstrates that the masses do not always display good taste. (Of course, we already know that, given the popularity of the accounts of the Kardashians' bowel movements. And the viewership of Big Brother)

And finally, Kokanee. From the Kokanee Glacier. In British Columbia.

So there is indeed a sense of pride and patriotism when drinking it, even as I pined for a Yellow Dog.

It is in fact an adequate 'pilsner style lager', and claims to be the most popular lager in BC. Not sure that is much of a claim, going back to that bit about all our Craft Beers. An okay camping beer.

But, after a plate full of hot peppers that set my mouth on fire, it went down not badly. As did the second. And third.

And, of course, in an Asian draft beer glass; that doesn't mean that one drinks less, it simply means one fills one's glass (much) more often. Hite is a really good beer, made in Korea, but again not exported outside of Asia. Hite also makes a really good Soju, but that is tale for another forum.

I have watched this thread for a while, seeing most of your postings on it, and have to admit, you need to get out and travel more and maybe splurge on yourself once in a blue moon??

A HUGE fan of stouts!! I also love a Gose once in a while. Usually have Michelob ultra in the fridge since Im still in training mode. But I have dark beers when Im not. Im also a fan of the anniversary ales from Firestone Walker. We recently found Taiwan Beer and we LOVE the white grape, pineapple and lychee ones
