Remove all the loose rust and shoot er with Rustoleum. If there’s some pitting or rust you can’t reach, use rust reformer and then your choice of rattle can paint.

 

Luckily there’s no loose rust

it looks like the paint just got wore off the frame and the metal turned brown.

I’ll go buy some rusto tomorrow

 

Tyler’s Discount Bodyshop™ ain’t so bad when you’re 30 feet away. I did a lot better job painting the hood and roof than I did with the tonneau cover.

 

A body shop won’t repaint a roof will they?

 

I used POR15 on my front differential after blasting and some of it is rusting already. Probably not the fault of the product but improper prep on my end. I repainted the frame rails on the Nissan in Rusto satin black.

 

Sure, some will. Most don’t want to because it’s not with their time. It’s especially hard on these trucks because there’s no hard body lines, it just blends seamlessly into the cab. If you saw my paint job at Moab you can see where I failed to feather the clear coat really badly.

You should give it a shot. Buy a cheap HVLP from harbor freight and get some cheap paint and clear from your auto body supplier.

The clear coat especially on Black 1990’s Toyotas always fail. When I sanded the roof down to metal on my truck, there were crows feet everywhere from where the clear failed and etched the sheet metal.

 

If I’m sanding and spraying something in my truck it damn sure isn’t gonna be automotive pint

 

If you bedline that truck so help me god

I like LineX because it’s very thin compared to other bedliners. It’s my personal favorite.
