A rain delay in San Diego? What is the world coming to?

 

This race is one for the ages. It epitomizes why a wild card was added after the ‘93 Giants won 103 but their season was over since the Braves won 104(they were both NLW teams back then).

 

And because of the delay here I am on the East coast watching the second Braves-SD game which just started at 11pm EST…

The Cardinals putting on a show.
The Reds aren’t catching them.
The Brewers don’t need much to clinch but aren’t there yet.
The Braves are staring at a show down with the Phillies for the last NL post season birth up for grabs but just tied the Padres in the ninth. And the lead in the tenth.
The Giants refuse to yield 1st place.
The Dodgers might have a date with their post season kryptonite.
The Padres finish the season against the Dodgers and then the Giants…

 

Meanwhile... TB sails away and waits for AL wild card game winner.

 

What a back and forth battle with the Padres. Braves win in the 10th 10-8!

 

Are Toronto fans rooting for Boston to take one out of three from the Yankees? It seems the Yankees - Blue Jays and Braves - Phillies are the only remaining head to head matchups with the season on the line for all 4 teams. Seattle still has a chance but doesn’t play anyone ahead of them so I suppose they’re hoping for the Jays to win but not sweep the series. And what’s up with Boston ending the season with an inter league series in Washington? Bizarre.

 

The Giants have been remarkably consistent.

17-6 … September, edit -make that 22-6 and their worst months winning percentage would win them every other division except the AL east(their 2nd worst would tie that one too). Aside from July their winning percentage went up every month. There was no fade or falter.

 

Jay’s facing the Yanks would be better than the redsucks in a wild card game. However jays really needs to warm up their bats!

Wishful thinking at this point but certainly true. But if NY keeps it up then Seattle has a decent chance to leapfrog past Toronto and if they can do better against the Angel’s and A’s than Boston does against Baltimore and Washington then they can squeak their way in at the very end.

So what happens with the Braves unplayed game? Do they only have to or get to play it if they end up tied with or behind Philly in wins? Who’s the other team involved?

If they’re tied or even half a game apart I believe, Braves have to play a makeup game against the Rockies. Expected that would be on Oct.4.

Braves beat Phillies 2-1 in first game wooo!
Morton was perfect with a shutout through 7 innings. Then Will Smith almost gave the game away pitching the 9th, second game in a row he’s almost lost the game in the 9th. Please Snitger play anyone else in the bullpen in the 9th!!

 

Yankees win and Orioles win. All set up for the Mariners to make hay.

Somebody has to get by the Cardinals first. One game and the following series will end 2 of 3 historic seasons. It’s no wonder the World Series is so celebrated. All of the disappointment of the contenders gets distilled into euphoria for only one and more than any other sport it’s possible for the lowest seed to win it all.

 

That's crazy... Nobody wants to talk about the Rays even when they're kicking everybodys ass.

Yanks, Jays, Mariners... ain't gonna matter when their next stop is St Petersburg.

Who’s the wildcard game: Seattle, NYY, Boston, Toronto?

People talk about things because it’s interesting not because it’s boring. The Rays are boring right now because they have it locked in. When it gets to October the Rays will become interesting again.
