As I understand it and explained similarly by a smog person, as long as the CID or CVN (calibration number) matches with a known good carb compliant tunert (like a bullydog) then you can flash whatever you want, the number doesn't change. make it run Doom and it'll still pass smog.

Got the right side installed. Just gotta mount the abs module, air pump and fender and she’s done for the weekend.

I made this for the 3 lower bolts where the inner mounts to firewall area. Without it you have to really reach way up there with a nut on the wrench to get the top 2. Harry is not to fond of rivnuts but I did it anyways. They didn’t spin when I put a pretty good amount of torque on them so I’m good with that.

When it fails don’t say I didn’t warn you... actually, I guess they really aren’t that important, they only hold the front of the truck together

Why though? It’s so easy to reach in from the top and use nuts!!!!

Oh I agree, anything is better than rivnuts! However for the inner fenders it’s really important to use top lock nuts so the truck doesn’t vibrate the inner fenders right off the truck

Maybe braze them on...the Toyota metal is paper thin. Bad idea because changing later, might need a front clip or replace the firewall. It'd be so much work. Just do what Harry says. He has probably forgotten more about building trucks than all of our knowledge put together.

Brazing isn't structural and wouldn't last an hr offroad.

All sheet metal work is brazed in off road. The silicon bronze is more flexible than ER70 and helps keep sheet metal panels from cracking apart over time.

With that said I wouldn’t weld the inner fenders on as the mating surfaces are on a bunch of factory overlap seams that are glued and spot welded together from the factory...welding over the glue is nasty. Also it’s nice to be able to remove them if you ever need to do serious motor work.

Again the correct solution is to use the provided 1/4-20 hardware with top locks and washers.
