It was nice to visit the homeland. Saturday wasn’t too smoky, and the Sunday rain seemed to help.

The rain was amazing in helping clear up the skies a bit.

    This was last Tuesday.

Wow, that’s rough. Glad it’s getting a little better. Hopefully the rest of fire season is minimal.

things cleared up here too - sunday was weird though. started off calm, then the winds picked up. airport said they were getting 60mph gusts. it got more smokey as the winds pushed smoke from the fires around Helena, Great Falls down this way. then the rain started. I was outside for just a minute and it smelled like someone had just doused a campfire right next to me - super strong damp soot smell. so weird. but now its clear and this is the first i've seen the Bridgers in two or three weeks!

The wet campfire smell that evening was so weird, its was like the rain saturated the smoke but left it in place. Been able to see the bridgers 3 mornings in a row now though.

Went and checked out Lakeshore Mine (1st photo, thats what Gaia calls it) last weekend. I was by myself so I didn't drive as far as I might have with another rig or 2. The last mile to the mine is posted by the FS for no motorized vehicles and I stopped about 1.2 miles short of that because it got real rocky and loose. Would drive the last 1.2 if I had some other rigs with me, there were a couple bypass spots in areas where it was especially rocky. There is a gate and its posted right where the road goes adjacent to the lake but you can just walk around it. I think its illegal for them to post it anyway since unpatented mining claims are still fully open to public access. Only saw 1 other person the entire day and that was down by my truck.

Yeah my wife wasn't interested in making trail to find some of the other buildings I saw in the aerials, and the 4.2ish miles was about the limits for my puppy anyway. I definitely want to get up there again and hike around to some of the other stuff.

    Hey Montana TW members!

I’m from Chicagoland and wondering if there are any meets/trail runs planned for next summer? Probably a bit early, but just wondering if these sorts of events happen here. I’m planning to spend about 10 days in Montana sometime next year and thought it would be cool to meet some members in the area for a portion of the time.

    Here we go again!
    Hello Kevin,
As you are aware it a big state. There a lot of clubs throughout the state. And a whole lot of independent wheeler’s. If you give the general area you will be then people can respond accordingly. I’m in the eastern part of the state and can help you as much as I can. Timing is important too because higher elevations don’t open until the thaw comes! But enjoy it all.
