Thanks gentleman! Not wanting to dump a bunch into my 37s setup since I know in the next couple years I'll be going to a 40s set up. But I need something bigger to satisfy my offroad appetite lol

The only thing I was most anxious about with 37’s was steering. The rest is ok if you have the right gears and are responsible, that’s why I have the modified tundra rack in the garage. I won’t be able to get it installed for a while though

Can't wait to see that install. I haven't look too much into it. And yeah I'm pretty controlled with my gas and brake pedal and I'll be regearing to 5.29 for sure and locking it up front. Already got my cab mount relocate and marlin crawler alignment cam gussets done. Tom woods single piece driveshaft.

Totally unnecessary thanks to how high my rear end is. :D Also, I haul lumber and just general crap in there because I DD & use this as a truck so removing 1 foot of bed wouldn't gain me nearly anything and would cost me a great inconvinence. I literally can climb the craziest stuff and still barely kiss the back end, especially now with the 37’s

I reinforce the bottom of the frame rails and I’m going to box the outer frame rails leading up to the frame horns as well as brace the frame horns eventually. I’m not worried about it

    Looking good!

Seeing the cut lower crossmember makes me curious how I could do something similar to my 4runner, so I like looking at your pictures. The front frame from 4runner to Tacoma is very similar from the side view, except for the 4runner I think has a taller radiator and for sure a different crossmember. The Tacoma radiator and shroud looks like stops at the bottom of the frame rail, whereas mine hangs down 3-4". This makes me think it probably wouldn't be possible without doing a lot of modification, but a dude can dream haha

Anyway, looks good. I'm enjoying the bumper build process pics

I’ll say chopping stuff like this when I had my jeep made the biggest difference and had I kept my 4r I’d have been way more sawzall happy lol these little approach and departure angle mods make insane differences

I wonder if you could chop it and then put a crossmember in front of the rad, about 1/4” below the bottom line of the rad. Would gain you at least a few inches.

mine already has some natural north eastern weight reduction, so I'm going to cut it out anyway and replace with some 2x2" and 1x2". was hoping to eek out anything else I can get. Looking at his pics, the taco shroud stops just below the fan, whereas the t4r has an extra 3" of extended shroud below the fan cutout to cover the extra radiator stuff, which makes me thing the t4r rad is taller

thats a good idea. My crossmember is pretty crusty, so its on the backlog of projects to get to. I'm slightly traumatized about anything radiator because I blew an ice chunk through there at AOAA, but something in front would also help to prevent this:

He hasn't hung a heavy ass bumper off them and then proceeded to slam it into shit and winch which causes them to do that. Personally I'd still replace them none the less just for the upgraded hardware.

Guys have been using the FJ rad in the tacomas which is about 3" taller than ours, I bet that's the same as yours. You could see if the tacoma one is shorter and would work for you and use it instead.

yeah that would make sense, because it hangs about that much lower than the frame rails. FJs and 4runners are more similar than to the tacomas, so that all adds up. I like randys suggestion of putting the bar in front, so I'll think about how I could execute that cleanly

Yeah just have it hang down a tad lower than the rad so you can put a skid there to protect the very bottom of the rad. Even that few inches will be a pretty big deal.
