Do you all ever feel like there is too much to do (outside work around the house) and everyone wants you to come do something (when they don’t have jobs/retired)? I need to finish mowing, weedeating, clean garage, install new fog lights on the truck, etc. I work 40 hours/week, and every weekend it’s “When are you all coming over?”

One of those things I always did for Mom while she was alive.I am sure that her being lonely had nothing to do with finding things she needed done.

Every one else as well it seems but when I needed some help everyone is busy.

Try when you work on the road and seldom get home

It is different if your being tasked to do things for able bodied people .

Myself I have a very hard time asking for help so laying on the ground unable to get up because of being on Ice I am fine I don`t need help carry on.

It sucks getting old not for Sissies for sure .

It is a choice Living in the woods We all could pack up and move to one of those apartment things just pay the rent not gonna happen but it is a choice.

Looks like a decent vessel..not gonna win races but that's not a bad thing

Yup I had several of the Iron Duke engine vehicles..my dad had a 84 Citation, mine was an 86 Olds Calais Supreme..88 Chevy Celebrity..one more I forget. Couldn't kill those engines, my dad's Citation popped the head gasket around 175K.

If only every job was this easy. Of course this being the third time changing it helps too. I finally broke down and bought a more expensive one, which hopefully equates to better quality.

Well fellers, the weekend episode of Past Tech with Rusty finds us finishing up the service on the old wagon.

    KIMG1746.jpg

The one thing that had worried me about driving this car (aside from the brakes getting flunky) is that the heater hoses were original, yes they were 55 years old!

The reason nobody has ever changed them is that you need to remove the passenger fender to get to them. You can see one directly above the solenoid, the other is back going under the hood hinge.

The device next to the battery where the hose close to the fender goes to is the vacuum operated water cut off valve, this car has factory air conditioning -- an expensive option back then. Ford called it "Select Air".

    KIMG1748.jpg

Yes guys this was a p-i-a.
The biggest issue was the antenna, it sits in a hole in the body under the fender in a rubber seal. You need to put the seal in place, set the fender on and drop the antenna in while pulling the wire from inside the car. The wire isn't very long, and naturally I was alone. I made many trips from the fender to lying under the dashboard -- and I'm not particularly agile anymore -- boy did I hurt that evening.

    KIMG1759.jpg

The hose is held against the choke thermostat by a metal saddle. The heat helps warm up the bi-metallic spring that controls the choke. See the white rope looking thing? That is the insulation (probably asbestos, it was 1966 remember) over a tube that goes down to the exhaust manifold. Engine vacuum pulls the heated air up to the choke thermostat spring box - this is called a hot air choke.

    KIMG1760.jpg

Many cars of this era have no temperature gauge, only a "hot" light, some like this one included a "cold" light as well.

    KIMG1761.jpg

Finally after almost 3 years of sitting in the garage and 2 weeks of on and off wrenching I went for an ice cream run, only took me 110 miles. She is wearing 3 years of garage dirt still, I could wash or cruise - the wash lost out.

    KIMG1764.jpg

    Life was good today! :)
