Hit some old spots I haven't been to in a while. Found a bunch of whiteys and mule deer intermingling. Found a decentish 3x3. Nice big frame, tiny crab claw forks in the front. Would be a great buck in 2 years. Watched him for a while. Tried talking myself into trying to shoot him "cause if I dont shoot him someone else will during the rifle season." Ended up passing and watchin him get something stuck in his ear, he was running around in circles flapping his ears. Pretty funny. Had some Whitey does bed about 70 yards below me. Wind was good and they were in a stalkable spot. Realized I haven't put my doe tag in my pack yet so they also got a pass.

The deer on the limited entry unit I hunted this fall never grow out of their crab claws.

This guy was bedded 30 yards off the road, but got the pass cause of shit fronts and no eye guards

the 3 point got the pass cause they gotta fork on the front, not the back

I'd prefer big forks on the back myself.

This is like comparing tits vs ass though lol. To each their own

Gave up trying to hunt deer. Not finding anything but peanuts that I don't want to waste my time with.

Went elk hunting saturday and sunday. I spotted a bull from the road. There was another truck there glassing the hillsides but he couldnt see the same exact cut that I could where he was from. Ripped over there grabbed my shit and started hiking. Up 1200 feet in less than a mile. Bugles kept my motivation up to keep moving up the mountain. Eventually came to a glassing point. I could hear 2 bulls bugling at each other. Ended up moving within 200 yards of them. They were on the other side of some timber. Then I realized that I left my bugle tube and call in the truck.... Laid out some cow calls and got some responses but could never get them to come in. Went back sunday and only got 3 lazy bugles in the morning. 2 more lazy bugles from their beds. Never got them to step out. Backed out again. I would've liked to stay sunday night but I had promised my wife some projects would get done around the house.

Which leaves me here. The plan is to leave work early thursday and get to a glassing point to find the elk. NOW THIS IS THE PLAN. I HAVENT TOLD THE BULLS THIS BUT IM PLANNING ON SHOOTING ONE OF THEM THURSDAY NIGHT. I know exactly where its gonna happen and I'm going to regret it once its on the ground and i have to pack it out solo.

Then after I get the elk out I head home. I took friday off from work to go scout antelope the day before opener with my wife. Were loading up the trailer and taking the kids which will be fun, and the dogs unfortunately. I have access on a few ranches out there so we have about 20k acres to roam and find her a nice buck. Which is totally doable. I've seen plenty nice bucks out there. One of the ranchers said he'd keep an eye out for a big one but he hasn't seen anything that sticks out from the rest. There is also some really good deer hunting out there. So the plan is to find an antelope buck friday night, bed him, shoot him saturday morning, get him broken down and in the cooler with enough time for me to hit a few spots while the deer should still be out, find a buck and watch him bed, and either plan on shooting him saturday night or sunday morning whichever time will give me the best wind and stalk options.

Now this plan may get skewwed a bit. But one things for certain, my wife will kill an antelope this weekend I can promise you guys that. The other animals are just extracurriculars at this point lol.

It does sound fun. I don't have the energy to do all that, but it definitely sounds like a good time.

Not saying that I wouldn't ever do it but Tree stand hunting doesn't really appeal to me. Not my first choice of approach is what I should really say. If I patterned a deer that I wanted to shoot and the only option was a stand I'd totally do it. But I like the chase.

It’s almost impossible to stalk deer in this part of the country. Land is broken up into small to moderate size tracts with very limited access. Ambushing from above or from ground blinds are the methods of choice around here. I do think that stalking a deer would be fun.

I totally get that. Here we have huge pieces of land to hunt. I couldn't imagine hunting just a few acres. I think the smallest piece I hunt is 50 acres.
