Hey y'all. I have a 2011. I'm switching out the light bulbs to LEDs. My turn signals/DRLs need resistors, but I can't find this tidbit anywhere:

Do I put a resistor on each LED bulb, or one per circuit (so like one resistor on the right would work for front and back right turn signals, and one on the left would work for front and back left)?

I feel silly asking, I feel like it must be per bulb. But i want to buy the correct number and not have to go back and forth to the store.

    Thanks!

Just buy the correct turn signal Flasher for LED bulbs .

Unless you want to spend time installing resistors for each bulb

In essence what your are doing is bringing the load back to the same as incandescent bulbs per circuit.

Thanks! Having googled now that looks a lot simpler, just a plug and play flasher. Will look for one that works with my DRLs.

Not sure why you need anything for your DRL`s

Unless the headlights are no longer used for the DRL`s in newer Trucks and for some reason you want them able to flash then that most often means a controller .

What you would see in an Emergency vehicle.

You are in the first generation section.

You would have better luck with responses in the 2nd gen forum, having said that no one makes a LED flasher for 2nd gens with DRL so you have to either use a resistor on each side or modify the existing flasher to work with LEDs.

2nd gens (2005-15) use the front turn signals for DRL, they are controlled by the flasher module.

The simplest and cheapest is to alter your flasher module. Take it out of the truck and lift the cover off. You will see a silver wire that is bet into an inverted U shape with square corners. That wire creates resistance that causes the bulbs to flash. LED bulbs have much less resistance so simply file that wire thinner to create less resistance and stop hyper flash. File a little at a time and check it as you go. Make it about 1/3 to 1/2 thinner.

Sylvania makes a led load resistor, they have them at the parts stores

Just make sure you put those where they won't melt or burn anything because they can get very hot.

Thanks. I had to puzzle my way through that, it's been a long time since I had to think about resistors and capacitors and other electrical engineering.

I found this LED flasher mod earlier when I was looking for info:

This is true, direction do say to mount it to metal frame for a heat sink
