All waxes has form of silicone. Most car care products today are water based, made with the same ingredients that people use everyday. Some compounds have baby oil. I forgot the chemical name. Car shampoo is slightly modified of hair shampoo.

I learned a lot talking to chemist working at car care manufacturers.

Can any of the Turtle Wax Ceramic line up survive through the winter without reapplying?

I may not be able to reapply anything in the winter due to temperature.

    Looking for suggestions.

Mother’s pure carnuba is quite durable. It’s the hardest wax I’ve ever applied. As long as you’re not pressure washing it every week it lasts quite a while.

define hardest wax? Waxes trend to evaporate over time this do not have the longevity of a sealant or ceramic

    Was the wax texture, hard?

Was it hard to apply and/or remove?

Check this out. This decided it for me and after trying it, the stuff flat out works the best of the ones tested. Super easy to apply too.

Being as this is my first black vehicle, it's been a learning curve for me. All my previous vehicles have been white or red. Cant just go to town on a black truck with spray wax and a microfiber towel like I used to when theres light dirt -- it doesn't work on black.

Throughout the spring and summer I wash and spray wax (homemade Collinite 845 concoction I make) every month or so. In September/October I wash then apply a coat of Collinite 845. Stuff is cheap, it can get on the black plastic without whitening it, goes on easy, comes off easy so long as you dont let it harden too much.

If we get snow/salt I'll do m K best to pick an opportunity to rinse as good as possible.

Come march/april I'll spray everything down with a pay and spray hot water rinse (mainly the undercarriage).

Black paint seems like the less you touch it the better, just so long as you have a nice coat of wax to get you through the winter months.

I'm not super anal about my truck always looking pristine. Its pointless 18 seconds after washing and spray wax black looks like crap anyhow. One good coat of quality wax in early to mid fall should suffice to protect the paint as good as a wax can.

Hard to apply or remove doesn’t mean better longevity.

I have not used any first hand. All my vehicles have a ceramic coating on them. I would think a ceramic sealant would be superior to wax. Not sure you gain anything over regular sealant.

thank you. Exactly what I was trying to say.

I have a question about the "ceramic" coatings.

In the world I grew up in Ceramics was a fired form of clay. In the professional world Ceramics are very hard and used to cut tough materials like tungsten. All were fired at extremely high temperatures...2500*F or greater.

    So my question,

What are the "ceramic" coatings for cars. What is the material? It certainly isn't fired at 2500*F.

I'm thinking its a hydrophobic silicon based coating.

It's semantics, ceramic is referring to something inorganic.

Difficult to remove if you applied it too heavily.

Mother's or Megs made a wax particularly for black vehicles..not sure if others make a similar one, I had good results on my Chevy truck with it

Saw these... decided to just stick with what I've been using. I've got some clear coat scratches, so I may revisit the possibility of picking one of these up to see how it does hiding the pinstripes

Ceramic coating is typically composed of silicon dioxide (silica, Si02), which is sourced from natural materials such as quartz and sand. Some types and brands also use titanium dioxide (titania, Ti02) as an additional hardening agent.

Meguiars has the Black Wax, and White wax. I believe it's the Black Wax the can polish more than the White wax.
