    Hola taco fans,
Long version: I actually have not 100% desided on the exact tocoma that I'm going to be purchasing with-in the next week or so. I desided that this make and model truck is what I've like for a LONG time and that's what I'm going to get next. I just put my pile o' s that I never wanted inthe first place into a ditch. Thank god, now it's life is over.... to me anyway.

    Short:
I put up to 2500 miles a month on my vehical because of my job. I get compensated for gas and even a per mile compensation. So I'm not as much worried about fuel costs. -Though they are a bonus when I'm not working. My question is more about the life of a v6 vs the life of a four banger. (which i cannot for the life of me even find) - The other part of the story is that I MUST have a double cab because of the family need for at least one car seat. Babies come you know?

I have read a topic about v4 questionably having enough power for a double cab. I wanted a refresher on that, and mostly(!) how is a v6 going to hold up to a GIANT LOAD of freeway miles? Currently looking hard at a 2003 double cab V6 prerunner sr5. (cant find a trd prerunner double) damn tacomas sell like hot cakes, or better here in oregon.

    Thank you in advance. :)

not sure what will last longer but alot of us on here have around 200,000 miles with not alot of problems(or any).
highway miles will be easier on your engine compare to stop and go traffic too.

Well first there are two different inline 4cyl in 1st gen Tacoma's, there is a 2RZ (2.4l) and a 3RZ (2.7l) and the V6, 5VZ (3.4l). They are ALL GREAT ENGINES and they are BULLET PROOF! As long as you keep up with the maintence, you should easly see 200-250k+ with no problems. The most I have seen on the V6 was around 450k or something and it was still running fine. I only have 145k though.. LOL!

I put 2,668 miles on my truck a month. These are 98% all highway miles down country roads to school and work. I spend 3 hours just driving in my day. I'm dead serious. I have to change my oil every month and three weeks.

Personally I haven't had any major issues at all. Maintenance wise I have only changed the oil and kept a clean filter, a new battery, new wiper blades, and a new gas cap, and tires. Rotating your tires, changing your oil, getting frequent alignments I feel is the key to long travel use.

As far as major issues, Toyota had to replace a leaking transmission seal, and my steering rack assembly was leaking at the boots. All of those were replaced under warranty. They basically gave me an entirely fresh front end at 80,000 miles. Really as far as major issues I think leaking seals, the steering assembly, and ball joints would be your most probable issue, but I'm sure there are plenty who are still on their original parts mine was just isolated. However approaching 90,000 on my 2003 Double Cab and it rides beautifully. It's extremely comfortable for long travel.
