yeaaa...no. JD is incredibly humble, honest and WAY underpriced for what they are delivering. They are insanely available to all of us idiots and our inane questions. Everyone knows JD in the dirt world. What other fab places do this? Not many... and for a reason. They don't suffer foolishness.

You could still daily it. Just you gotta understand that what you're doing is making it further from a stock vehicle. But I mean any lift, larger tires, etc all change the dynamics of the stock vehicle in an accident. It's for whoever including the mall crawlers that want bigger tires and no rub

I stand firmly behind my outlook. We are here busting our asses to innovate and create unique products for the Tacoma’s at very reasonable prices. On top of that I’m offering a generous discount on a product, if someone doesn’t want to buy the product because they don’t know the exact discount they are getting on something then it’s not for them.

I’m still scratching my head how this translates to “stay humble” ?

I think most of the offroad world takes the Nascar approach. Build it so nothing collapses vs Indy, F1 or New MFG build it so every thing crumples or gets torn off.

JD is starting the thread the needle of mass marketish availability and more low volume higher end product for a very small niche market. It's a tough needle to thread.
Like most of the other products offered you can expect this to be pretty much the one and only GB unless an odd gliche happens like the last lower pivot GB. The only reason any of these products came about was Harry was originally a customer that wanted JD to do some crazy shit. JD didn't even have to turn it into products. The GB that they do are kinda like an introductory first customers buy kinda deal to give the first guys a cheaper in. They outsource some of the work so doing larger runs allows a better pricing for the outsourcing which he passes onto the first group.

Maybe old nascar pre Dale dying but ever since they've been doing more crumple zones and what not. Rules changed and points system changed so they cant keep min speed up as easily or make as many points by completing some laps.

You maybe correct on that. I was just being simple in the comparison. The point being simple rubbing in F1 takes the cars out. "rubbing is racing" does not apply to open wheel. And there is no such thing anymore as a "simple fender bender" with new cars.

Anyhow. Aside from y’all’s arguing about group buys.

Started the pump install today. Got the old pump out which was in my opinion the hardest part. The damn thing wouldn’t budge once i took the bolts out. Lines removed. The baby woke up so I’m forced to return on the next nap time.

Hope to slam it all together then go get some PS fluid to test it out tonight.

I get it from both sides. As a business you really don't have to mark these down to sell them as they will sell, but by getting 40 more sets out in the wild it will help spread word about them and reach new potential customers. Yet as a customer it is nice to know the amount before making the commitment, if I were a potential customer for these and had a need for them my thoughts are I'm paying less than 2k and I'm getting a free battery mount. Any additional money saved will be considered just that, money I saved by committing early. If these suit your build and you are going to do it at some point anyway decide if its worth it to pay less than 2k now or at least 2k later.

I’m not talking about the group buy. Just the comment of “we don’t need the business”. Maybe that’s true of you and the owners and this is truly out of the goodness of your heart and you have no financial needs. If that’s the case, then never mind.

I, however, would shit a brick if one of my employees said that to a customer or potential customer because we, like most businesses, need money to operate. I can almost guarantee none of the five generations (myself the fifth) over the past 100+ years in business have ever had that attitude. Throughout that time we have seen booms and busts and everything in between. We have only survived by staying hungry, humble and willing to go the extra mile (feast or famine) I am extremely grateful to have that vast amount of experience to build from.

There’s a reason your bosses have ventured down the path of Tacoma innovation- there’s money in it. And good for them/you- money keeps the whole thing going. So yeah, stay humble and always “need the business” and be grateful for it. Or don’t, and watch it disappear.

what in the actual heck is wrong with you people !? why does there seem to be an assumption that you are giving JD your bank account info before you know the price ? it’s not rocket science people, you sign up and then the pricing is provided privately and then you pay or bail out and the guy in line behind is a happy camper. There is nothing shady or weird about it, tons of gb’s work this way.

it’s people like this that make good vendors run the hell away from TW and no it doesn’t hurt their wallet at all, instead of building 100 fenders that people are begging for he could easily say f-it and camp out on another $500k build for the next year and not make any taco stuff for us.

full vent - you guys don’t see or hear this stuff but i’m hanging out with these guys sometimes 7 days a week and i see and hear an absolute literal non stop barrage of BS they get from TW members that range anywhere from people ordering the wrong stuff and then expecting free replacements and free shipping and people even stealing stuff that has been sent to them on good faith. I can’t tell you how often i see these guys hang up after a call with a stunned look of bewilderment on their faces from what they have to deal with.

I’m at the shop all day every weekend and this past weekend for example Harry got absolutely nothing done on his own truck because he was answering the phone all day on his days off, answering his personal phone ( that he has been far too generous with sharing ) to help TW folks with questions and he even spent half the day Saturday helping a TW member with an emergency issue…again on his own time off the clock.

…then he puts together a group buy everyone has been begging for and salivating over and he gets this kind of BS !? …just go away before you ruin it for everyone else.

Please don’t twist my words around to suit your narrative. I simply said we do not need to offer group buys to sell products, not that we don’t need the business.

I am extremely grateful for every customer we have and have always done whatever it takes to make sure of it. At the end of the day we care most about creating quality products and providing the best customer service/support possible.

Lets get this thread back on track and stop arguing about how we should run our group buy

My comments were not centered around how the group buy is handled, that doesn’t bother me a bit and always made sense to me. If I were participating I would be willing to pay full price and be happy for whatever discount was offered. No brainer.

I took your comment as an ego trip. Maybe I misread what you were saying. When I read it I took it as you were doing TW a favor by offering a group buy and that you didn't need the business. If I thought you were like that I wouldn’t have spent a dime with JD regardless of how innovative.

This sport has blown up after stimulus and COVID and it’s filled some wallets and egos. I’m throwing out a cautionary tale of all good things come to an end. There will be lean times, that’s just business. The companies that survive will be the ones who developed good customer relationships. You can think I’m full of shit, but the truth is you will RARELY get someone to tell you the truth about their interaction with your company, they just won’t spend money with you and you’ll have no idea why. I’ve had nothing but good interactions with you guys, but that comment totally turned my stomach. I really hope I took it the wrong way.
