Well boys cam swap did NOT go well.

First, one of the aluminum headed valve cover hex heads rounded. I tried a punch and trying to walk it that way. Tried an extractor. Nothing. Gave up and grinded the head off. Before doing that I ordered an $18 valve cover on eBay in case things went sideways.

so after that, I have one of the unlucky bikes where the valve cover absolutely will not for over the cam gears and under the frame. So had to drop the motor. Idk what I was so scared of. Just unbolt the front, one of the rear, slacken drive chain, loosen the other rear, and it swings down.

so valve cover is out. Need to order new valve cover bolts and gasket. I guess I’m a noob but getting that far took me several hours.

upon close inspection there’s a torx imprint in the vc bolts but they are without a doubt 6 sided like a hex. Wonder if I shoulda used a torx.

What bike are you working on? I helped my neighbor with a ZX11 cam swap on his ZRX1100, with nothing except YouTube and a FSM. It went well, but he hasnt rode the bike since the swap - aka he had a kid and doesn't ride anymore, so I stopped asking him.

 

triumph speed four. Swapping in tt600 cams. I have the FSM but it doesn’t mention the valve cover not fitting. It’s a thing on the forums. Like 75% of them clear no issue. 25% need the engine lowered.

Side panel says 550, so you might be correct. Maybe the side panel got replaced with one from another model though? Engine size should be stamped on the front of the engine somewhere. On my cb750 its stamped on the cylinders front middle.

 

I have an 800cc starter bike you can buy

 

VA to CA would be a little hard to pull off.

 

I think uship can ship bikes. Friends have used it before on ebay
