If its cheap enough and you get 3 winters out of it, consider it a consumable item like oil

    Hi,
Do you think the 3rd gen TRD skid plate will fit on my 2nd gen 2015? I like the 3rd gen skid better that the 2nd gen.

Do you remove the skid for oil changes or leave it on and use the access door for filter removal?

The instruction sheet shows the filter housing through the access hole, I'm surprised it's that far off center...I was wondering if you can even get a filter housing wrench on it.

I take it off. We had an aftermarket skid on our Volvo that had an access hole. The first time I changed the oil without dropping the skid, I instantly regretted it. It was dripping until I removed it and cleaned it up.

At stock height, using a jack was pretty easy. Now with a slight lift, there's enough room to hold it in place. I've also just tried removing the cartridge without draining it first. It is slightly more messy, and I will likely continue to do it that way.

Ok upon opening it up, there was no 12mm for the "D" bolts included or missing during shipping. Read the full PDF on install and the simple card that came with it.

Do you reuse the 12mm that you remove? or are the different and actually missing?

I see the part # for replacement. Maybe call BAM?

It’s a skid plate, d00d. It’s supposed to get all messed up so that your important parts do not. Do you worry about the powder coating on your nut cup? :)

Regardless, being aluminum and powdered coated it’s going to resist corrosion better than just about anything. Mine’s all beat to crap, been through 1 Minnesota winter, and corrosion is non-existent; not that I inspect it with a microscope.

I’ve been living in minesota most of my life and I have never seen significant corrosion on an aluminum wheel. Worry about your steel parts; and your soft parts. Always use protection.

I don’t remember the exactly, but I remember reusing the small hardware in the rear. The front attachment point is different and has beefier hardware.

Well I don’t live there but thought it was Minnesota…. regardless of how it’s spelled, maybe y’all don’t spread as much salt as here in Western NY… but I can tell you beyond a shadow of a doubt aluminum wheel corrosion is a real thing around here. Takes a chip in the clear and then the white oxidation spreads.
The wheels on my 2010 Tundra had more white than shine when I got rid of it.
And I don’t know where the notion of me wanting the plate to be perfect for the life of the truck comes from. I was asking if it rots to shit in a harsh climate. Maybe English is different here than there too…

You're going to hear a few people rabidly claim that salt doesn't attack aluminum and/or that they know because they live in some cold ass region that snows 9 months out of the year and is often -20 below zero.

    Not all salts are chlorine.
Some states use glycol and organics (molasses, etc)

If your state dumps tons of sodium/magnesium/calcium chloride on the road unprotected steel and aluminum is going to corrode. Period. It is somewhat amusing and yet annoying that so many think aluminum won't corrode because aluminum oxide is white instead of orange/brown.

OK, so for those of you poor bastards forced to live at or above the "salt line" I guess you don't have much of a choice here then do you? Stick with the factory steel splash guard or put the powder coated aluminum plate on and accept the fact that over time it's going to get impacted to some degree by all that fucking salt! Again, considering where it sits and what it is designed to do, I think anyone with half a brain would expect it to show it's age at some point.

Do you have to practice at being a dick, or does it just come naturally?

Probably install Friday when I have some time as I need to rip off the Sport air dam I guess.
