    Question for the group

Currently have ‘21 OR DCSB and would like to sleep in the back with Leer topper. The short box with topper makes it challenging at best to sleep on the back. I have been kicking around trading it in on the same truck but a long box. Does this make sense to anyone else? Wife thinks I’m crazy!

No. You and others want as much space inside as outside in the cab. The dclb looks nice with a topper on. Personally, it looks like a bus to me.

I would have to be in a very bad place to consider sleeping in the bed of my pickup. YMMV

What’s wrong with a ground tent? Cheaper, lighter, and more versatile.

I live in Griz county and a lady was just ripped out of her tent and killed about 20miles from my house. I’m looking for a better option for this up coming big game season.

There are not many grizzly bears in my area, but I’ve heard many times that a lear top cannot protect you from them.

As an aside we do have timber wolves (and black bears) in my area and you cannot compare the sound of them howling in the middle of the night while you are lying in a tent to the recordings on tv. So cool.

Enjoy your camping. It’s a hoot.

You are right, If a Giz wants in they are coming in LOL.

might be better to skip camping this hunting season and just get up early and drive to the area.

I bought my truck with this as one of my main reasons, I've had a great summer spending alot of time sleeping in the back. It works great up in the rockies on the old logging roads, drive up find the trail head, nice comfy sleep in the back and then up early for hiking. 10/10 would recommend.

Side note, make sure you get a topper with bug nets on the windows!

Depending on how tall you are, you can build a plywood platform and sleep on it diagonally. I'm 5'8 and it works out pretty well, but it definitely wouldn't work for two people. I got my dcsb with the topper not realizing just how short the 5' bed really was and sort of wish I went with a long bed, but I decided ultimately if I'm bringing my gf along camping we're going to set up a ground tent or wait till I upgrade to a rtt. To me, going with those options offset the trouble of 1. finding a long bed taco that like and 2. trading the truck in (that I've already grown attached to). Just my 2 cents though. Again if you're a taller person the platform won't really change much for you.

Do you guys not have mud, gas cans, tools, dead animals, and other non-snuggly things in the bed of your pickup? Am I the only one with no hookers and blow in my bed?

I’m 5’9 and the short box works for me with platform above bed rails but like was said, no go for the wife and I.

Think I will eventually trade for LB but the RTT may be a good option for the 2 of us for now.

We do have all the above, store most under the truck while using bed for sleeping and animals are hung till we are ready to head for home. We go with others as well who have in the past loaded all animals in his truck, long bed F350. He is spoiled and brings his Trvl trailer most times.

Where I grew up, the purpose of separating the bed from the cab was so you didn’t need to sit on the manure. The world had gone crazy.

I sleep in the bed of my dclb during hunting season with my wife next to me. Works nicely. Set it up right and you can get two elk mostly in there with a bed rolled up. Might be able to make a short bed work with one person at diagonal.

Can't speak to the financial aspect. Probably better off getting a wall tent and a trailer...or a camper trailer depending on the road. If you're in a wall tent keep your food in the truck and your bear gun next to your sleeping bag.

Dead elk, women, and pickup beds. Is that a new pornhub channel?
