If you want a LB and don't mind the financial hit, go for it. I have a 2021 DCLB and will probably trade for an AC if I can find one since I want a shorter truck with a LB.

Yes she did, crazy the bear kept coming back. After this happened I have been rethinking sleeping in just a tent.

    I don’t blame you man.

But I mean it’s rule#1: No food in the tent.

There are no grizzly bears here, but the first time I went camping in the Boundary Water Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW) we were all about hanging our food in the trees and keeping even toothpaste outside the tent. The more times we went back and never saw a bear made us want to start baiting them. I've unfortunately never seen a bear in the wild. Don't miss out.

I would have a Benelli M4 or at least an AR.

Did they ever track down that bear? I remember reading this story recently.

Is that a popular bear hunting carbine where you live? I think here they just bait them and then shoot them in the head with a 308. I'm not even sure if a 223 is even legal for white tail deer hunting here. I've never hunted bear, so I could be wrong.

Not talking about hunting. Just protection with something reasonably fast and easy to handle.

To get your thread back on track… I traded in a one year old truck and bought the same truck, the same color, with an auto transmission (traded in manual). My wife said I was crazy, but she’s also a very patient woman. I didn’t lose my ass on the deal, but it did cost me a few thousand. If you can swing the cost and it’s worth it to you… go for it. None of us can tell you what’s best for you, though. If you’re set on sleeping inside the bed with a shell then there’s only one end goal. If you are considering other options then maybe compare the costs. A guy once told me “Money is a renewable resource, my man.”

I have a long bed and never considered a short bed "baby truck" LOL.
But not because of sleeping accommodations. The LB can actually haul lumber and other long objects safely.
As for camping, I'm backpacking in a hammock, 10-20 miles away from my truck. To each their own on defining camping.
In all fairness though, I don't do grizzly country, but plenty of black bear, coyotes, poisonous snakes, etc. My only fear is ticks and that's why my clothing & gear is soaked in Permithrin.
In other words, the long bed will serve you well in many uses.

    Thanks for all the insight!

The bear was eventually caught about a week later after it raided and destroyed some nearby chicken coops.

I think I will look into trading as soon as dealers around here get some stock back.
