Hey guys, just installed an uptop bravo rack and was thinking of adding a roof top case to store straps and other stuff. Just wanted to know what people recommend or if this has already been discussed a ton, could someone steer me to the right thread. I saw monoproce makes some, Plano, and of course pelican. I’d feel kinda bad drilling a hole in a pelican. Anyways would love to hear what you guys like and why and see some photos of your set up and gear and what not. Thanks!

Building your followers on the 'gram? It's gotta be an Alubox, Pelican or ROAM.

Want something completely functional but not so expensive so that when you realize that you can put your straps somewhere else (in the bed, behind the rear seats, et al)? Plano, Monoprice house brand, Alibaba express, Harbor Freight.

Yeah I have a good bit stored in the bed. I only have a small cubby in the bed for straps and what not and it’s full. Under seat was nice, but now the child seat makes access a pain. If there’s no real difference….I have a nice Plano for my rifles, not sure I could trust harbor freight with keeping my stuff dry. Haha monoproce I trust. I’ll check the others out too. Thanks

I like my roam case and I don't have Instagram. I just really liked the gas struts on the lid and can add a molle panel to it too.

So I have a couple thoughts. One is that I find Google to be more useful than the search function on TW. So I would search “roof rack case tacomaworld” or other variations. Two is don’t listen to snarky ass people that say mounting shit on your roof rack is Instagram points or shit. I sleep in the back of my truck when I camp sometimes so mounting shit to the roof rack is super helpful. Three is most people hard mount the case to the roof rack, drill holes in the case, bolt it directly to the roof rack. There are quick release options but they are pricy.

I have a pelican case. That is mounted to the roof via a eo2 quick release mount. So that when I camp I can throw the case on the roof and lock it to roof rack super quick. When I’m not camping I pull it from the roof rack and store it in the bed.

Haha. Just been on google before you mentioned this but thanks. Those clamps are new info though. I like the idea of not having it up there all the time. Thanks! Nice looking rig!

Been trying to track down those eo2 fasteners. What size top and bottom rails did you go with for your case? You go with a large bottom rail 32” and smaller tops rails. Just curious your set up if you don’t mind. Looks awesome but their website seems out dated and can’t find much info.

Their website is actually better than it used to be. I can measure it tomorrow, but I am pretty sure I went with high profile 22” bottom mounting rail that I drilled holes in to bolt to the roof rack. And a 9 or 11” locking top mounting rail that is mounted to the pelican case.

I have a $100 Amazon special I use for camping gear when staying out for a couple days. I have it on my roof rack with carriage bolts and wing nuts/rubber washers. Takes about 5 minutes to attach or detach from the rack. Also bought a gas strut for 5 bucks and attached to case which functions great for a fraction of the roam case price.20200908_140206_HDR.jpg
Sorry it's the best picture of the case up there I have.

I have two Pelican Vault 770s. I think they're only 36" long vs the 42" you see on most Planos/Pelicans. They hold a lot and look pretty alright and I got them on govx for ~$100 each. Mounted with carriage bolts/washers/gobs of silicone.

Pelican is the gold standard. Sometimes you can find a good used price on them from Andorama. Bought a few used 1750's and 1610/20's that were used from them and the description of conditions are spot on.

This is the way. Plano's 52" aLl wEaThEr tAcTiCal gun case fits perfectly on my Prinsu, should be the same for OP's.

If you want instagram points, save your gucci carrying case money for maxtrax boards. The latter are actually a worthwhile purchase.

edit: On cheap storage, a pair of plano 1919's fit perfectly in a covered shortbed with an RTIC 65 qt cooler with room leftover for bed rail tool racks and fuel cans.

Can confirm, I snagged 2 1919s at Home Depot for $19.99 each on a random sale and an RTIC 65 last fathers day during their big sale so I have this exact setup and it's fantastic :101010:

Really wish there was a faster way in and off. The EO2 looks like the best. Pelican has options but they are as expensive as a new case. Carriage bolts and wing nuts probably is the best option. Really wondering if something like a flush TV mount would work. Attach the 2 ribs to the case. Should be able to lock it don and lock it when it’s parked. Then would just lift off when you want it. Hmmmmmm

I mean it literally takes 5 minutes to line up the holes in the case with the carriage bolts on the roof rack. Slip on a rubber washer and wing nut and you're done. And you don't have to have it up there all the time. Super easy.

Can't answer you question as I have an Up-Top, but post pics once it's mounted. Undecided between the 83L or 95L.
