I’m semi retired and living on 30 acres in the middle of nowhere. I don’t need to get any deeper than I am now.

If I was younger and had kids in school and needed something more out of the community…..maybe I’d feel differently.

I have a friend who owns a business in Hurricane. One of his clients purchased several pieces of heavy machinery for his business. His employees were uncomfortable with the ISO controls and wanted them converted to SAE.

The local dealership quoted him an ungodly sum of money to do it. My friend recommended he call me. I agreed and quoted him a price that was about a tenth of what the dealer wanted.

The guy lives out about an hour and a half from me. I went out in a Friday to the guys ranch/farm. To my mild surprise I noticed he was FLDS. All day long the wives were bringing me food. The rancher knew I wasn’t LDS and it didn’t seem to bother him. Said he felt bad I was charging him so little. Asked if he could do me a favor. I noticed he had a ton of chickens. Told him we used to have our own small flock but didn’t move them out with us as I hadn’t built a coop and a run. Told him we missed the fresh eggs.

He says his sons will be in my neck of the woods next week and they’ll take care of me. I gave him my address.

Five days later one of his sons calls and checks to see if we’ll be home the following day. Mind you I’m expecting an egg delivery at this point.

At 8 am there is a honk at our gate. Outside are four boys in two trucks…one of them a flatbed loaded down with building materials. Two days later we had a new hand built beautiful coop, run and 8 hens. The boys worked like dogs, and did beautiful work…combo of corrugated metal siding and juniper. They also built a totally enclosed run with a gate.

After the first day we asked the boys if they wanted to stay in our casita and they politely declined…saying they had to go home. They asked if it would be a bother if they started earlier the next day. I said no problem. Sent them home with some spare tools and hand me down carhartts that my now adult sons had outgrown.

That's wonderful. I know people like that too. They are the salt of the Earth and true Saints. I love trading favors with people like that. It's too bad there are so many of the others that see "gentiles" as people to be taken advantage of. It's a tough issue.

By the way, for those of us that don't speak fluid acronym, what does "ISO and "SAE", mean?

They are control patterns for excavators and backhoes.

For ISO (international organization for standardization)the left hand controls boom and swing, right hand bucket and stick.

SAE (society of auto engineering) is opposite.

Took a stroll through the Rocky Mountains yesterday. I was visiting family near Billings so I figured I’d make the drive home more interesting.

Started in East Yellowstone and Teton, then Jackson Hole and even Bear Lake. I’m embarrassed that I had never seen most of those places cuz holy shit it’s amazing up there. I can’t wait to go back.

I didn’t know there was a construction equipment manufacturer that in 2021 doesn’t have a pattern change valve or switch in the cab.

    These were used.

Even so, the switch is fairly easy …….the dealer was soaking him.

I love the Tetons. They are so jagged and almost surreal looking.

Finally got my new camburg spindles on... I need to send my arms out for Blasting and Powdercoat later this year. They look rough after 10 years!

LOL... I've been reading a lot of the threads about frames rusted and replaced, and if those guys see your pics they will be highly envious of your "rough" 10 year old parts.

    For sure!

I was so focused on Yellowstone that the Tetons kinda came out of nowhere on me. Such an amazing area.
