So this week I had to work out of town and I got a rental car, well actually 3.
    GMC Terrain
    Jeep Cherokee
    Toyota 4Runner

I was merging into traffic with the GMC and heard a loud bang! and lost all power and SES light came on and went into reduced power mode and the exhaust got really loud. This was a pretty nice SUV with a lot of nice features but it felt under powered until the turbo kicked in at like 3000 rpm.

I got the Jeep after I had to bring the GMC back in with the engine issue. The Jeep was way underpowered and terrible road comfort with very few features. I had a razor go through the tire when I was 1 mile from my job site. The Jeep spare is only a temporary doughnut tire so I had to swap this car out too!

They put me into a Toyota 4Runner and I can say that this was by far the best all around SUV great road feel, great engine transmission feel and acceleration, radar cruise worked and it was fun to drive. My only complaint is that the window and lock button are in a really annoying location. I really can’t say enough now I understand now why so many Tacoma owners unsatisfied with the engine transmission pairing switch to the 4Runner.

Yeah, 4Runner people love them, and people who have switched are glad they did.

4runners were and still are built in Japan, and it's always shown as far as consistent quality and reliability goes over the years that they've been around*

*3.0l engine years do not apply

I agree, I love my 4runner now that I've had it for a few months, but sadly gonna have to trade/sell it to get another tow rig for a 10k lbs tractor :( funny thing is, i went from the tacoma to RAM 2500 to the 4runner... comfort and function, hands down I love the 4runner! wish I could afford it plus a tow rig, but can't... so now I'm kicking myself for the last trade lol. I thought I was going to sell my last tractor and not get another one, but ended up buying a larger one

My wives 4runner has way more power then my truck. Better shift points and drive ability. And it’s 9 years older. Gets way better gas mileage also. Makes no sense. But the electronic brake booster is going out so the brakes take a lot of pressure to work and the 4low actuator went out. Both have their ups and downs. My truck is more comfy for long drives. Hers is better for quick trips in town and in parking lots. Both are lifted with 885s and 5100s and 265/70r17 KO2s. Glad the rental company got you back on the road quick.

Do 4runners have passing signals? Example: move turn signal without turning it on, the lights bling 3-5 times to allow for highway lane changes.

I just picked up a new '21 SR5 on Saturday. Mine does not have the 3-blink turn signal lane change function.

I rented one for a week and loved it. Drove it around Vegas to Lake Havasu. It did great.

Once prices are a little more reasonable I’ll probably add a 4R to the fleet. I’m not going to get rid of the taco though.

I was kind of surprised too, but considering how awesome the rest of the vehicle is, I'm willing to let it slide :D. Compared to my '06 regular cab 4x4, it's like I'm driving a Bentley LOL

We have a 2019 4Runner and 2017 Tacoma. We like them both but use the Tacoma far more. The 4Runner is running on that old, but reliable 4.0L/5-speed combo. With that being said I can't say I prefer the 4Runner over my Tacoma.

In this market the minimum you'll pay is MSRP. I ordered mine in July paying MSRP, and it just came in this past Saturday. From what I understand this was a relatively quick turnaround. I don't think it's going to get better anytime soon, especially now that Toyota started cutting production this month due to the chip shortage. Plus all those flooded vehicles in TX and LA are going to create a high demand. Ugh.

I don’t need a 4R I just want one. My taco still has low miles. My wife has a newer Civic. So I’ll wait unless I can find a deal. I got my Trd OR taco for 5k under what the dealer wanted for it. I’m patient and willing to wait.

I love my 2021 tacoma TRD Sport. That being said I just put a deposit down on a 2022 4runner SR5 premium to replace my wife's 2016 Kia. This is going to cause problems because I want to drive them both.
