Ebrake cables are left in the rear drums, so its about 50% labour for cables. Definitely do it, all 2nd gens need cables pretty much.

As for shocks, KYB gas-a-just are as good as it gets for an improvement on ride quality, they are priced great as well.

Bilstien 4600's are a great choice as well, I'm running them on all four corners of my rig.

My truck is also a 2010 (Off Road 4x4) double cab, purchased in December 2009.
After a couple of years I stepped up the suspension with Ride Rite air bags in back and Bilstein 5100s all around. Very pleased... especially with the Ride Rites. The front shocks I set up one level from stock (0.85" lift).

That was actually taken this morning, and with all the little errands I've been running for work today I suspect I'll be hitting 139K by this weekend at the latest!

Sweet, any rough ETA on the frame arrival?

Mine took 2.5 months, has to be built and shipped from Mexico

If that's what you wish for, best limit your search to one that isn't breathing. Only legit chance of anyone finding that.

Has Toyota effectively lost money on every base model Tacoma it's had to do a frame replacement on? According to at least one comment I've seen in here it's gonna be around $17K when all is said and done; The sticker price on my truck when it was brand new was over $17K and my dad paid just shy of $15K after his trade-in and a bit of negotiation if I remember correctly...

Miracles can happen, but I was told no earlier than Thanksgiving and up to four months from the date it was ordered; It was ordered today, so that would be the end of January 2022 if it takes the maximum amount of time...

    :annoyed:

Luckily, my truck has been deemed safe to drive while I wait for the frame, and it passed state inspection over a month before the perforation was discovered, so I don't have to worry about getting pulled over between now and when my new frame finally arrives!

On another note, back in 2016 or so, a guy I went to college with brought his 2007 AC 5-lug in for state inspection; It passed emissions with flying colors, but the frame was like Swiss cheese and it failed safety inspection. Toyota had stopped doing frame replacements altogether at that point the dealer basically said he was out of luck. He did not have much money and the Tacoma was paid off, so he drove it with a valid emissions sticker but an expired safety sticker for months and managed to not get pulled over (he did end up getting a DUI in that truck after the frame got replaced though)...

Anyway, Toyota decided to start doing frame replacements again on trucks that were newer than 12 years old; My college chum got a new frame in late 2017 or early 2018 if I remember correctly, and I also got a recall notice in the mail towards the end of 2017...

My truck was due for state inspection in October 2017, so I had the dealer do the annual safety inspection and emissions test that year in addition to the Toyota frame inspection; It passed all of them with flying colors, and my the most my truck qualified for was treatment of the existing frame...

My truck was treated with the rhino snot stuff and the dealer had it for like two days if I remember correctly; I got a free loaner during this time. The service department at my dealer has a record of my truck getting a secondary treatment of the inner frame rails in the last few years, but I do not remember this...?

Anyway, it's moot point now because my truck is getting a complete new frame!

My truck, including the frame obviously, has spent 12 years and almost 140K miles in the Northeast (specifically Southeast Pennsylvania); If my frame lasted this long before developing one hole, then I'm definitely getting another out of this truck before I have to start worrying!

Aux back up lights, Bed lights, Re-located trailer plug, Good dooby, a.k.a. jumper cable mod, Heated seats, back up camera,
5100s and find some 3rd gen coils cheap. There could will give you an inch. Up a notch on the 5100s and the front spacer is gone.

For the rears... It would probably be cheaper to buy new leaf packs rather than an Add a leaf and let the dealer install them onto your existing leaf springs. I went with the AAL so I can't help you on leaf pack selection.

I saw this at Spirit Halloween and really want to buy it and zip tie it to the front of my truck (in place of the skeleton); Anybody think this would be too intense for the neighborhood kids?

Just applied for a second job at that Spirit Halloween store to supplement the income from my primary job; $12 an hour and I'm guessing an employee discount on decorations, so HELL YEAH! It's only through the beginning of November, so it's not a long term deal anyway; My supervisor at my primary job even gave me his blessing!
