Clipped a rock yesterday and pushed the drain plug into the oil pan a bit. It is not leaking but my question is do I replace the pan immediately or can I wait the 2000 miles until my next oil change? Skid plates have been next on my list even before this FYI.

You want to consider the kind of damage that possibly happened with this. I don't know exactly where the oil pick up tube is but the dent could interfere with the ability of the oil pump drawing oil through the pickup tube. .

I would be worried about any dents or bends in the oil pick up which is located towards the center of the oil pan. You can see an outline of the pick up on the center of the pan itself. I would remove the pan ASAP and inspect for damages and replace.

If it's not leaking you are probably ok, I'm not exactly sure where the oil pickup tube sits that would be my only concern.

Thanks guys! Yeah I just looked at it again and it seems like the pick up indent was undamaged but better safe than sorry.

If I was going to remove it I would just go ahead and replace it. Lower oil pan is cheap and easy.

Already got the replacement for $50 from autozone. And the $20 tube of fipg from
Toyota. About to crack it open and inspect the oil pick up. If it looks good I’ll seal it and torque it down tonight then fill her up with oil in the morning.

Oil pick up looks good! So psyched :bananadance:
Time to clean up and get the gasket on. will fill with oil in the morning after the gasket has cured for a few hours.

Not looking forward to that, eating a quick bite before. Here are a couple more pics of the pan for better reference.

Wire brush on a drill or Dremel. Wire wheel on a grinder etc.

    Putty blade and patience.

Carbide tipped scraper usually works good just have to be careful not to gouge the aluminum, a razor blade scraper may work depending on how tough the silicone is.

I'd give a wire wheel on a dremel a go, but I'd put a bunch of newspaper in the void so you don't sling those wires up into the engine where they'll never come out until you don't want them to. That or plastic gasket knife and then scotchbrite.

Thanks for the tips guys. I’ve been at it with a razor and I’ve gotten all the bigger chunks off but there is still that microscopic layer that I can’t get. All I have is a flap wheel right now so that’s not gunna work.
