Ditching the shell? Or are you going with a custom rack?

Keeping the shell for now. I will probably switch to a bed rack at some point, but even on sale the tent was expensive and my next big purchase will be a welder so I can really start working on the truck.

I will be taking take off both roof racks though. And am just using low profile feet and prinsu slats in the track of my current roof rack to keep the tent as low as possible and keep the weight down. No point in mounting the tent on an already heavy and too high rack.

    I 3D printed a mount for my UV5R.

Check it out and print it here:
    https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4978600

I ran my external antenna below the carpet and to the glovebox. The wire sits in the glovebox when the radio isn't in the truck.
The antenna is a magnet mount and can be stored behind the rear seat.

If your Tacoma has a 1 GR-FE engine (4.0 V6), then yes you did waste your money, unless you are looking to use the Pedal Commander on Eco Mode. I have a Pedal Commander on my 21 Jeep Compass and even on Sport + there is no comparison to the factory throttle response and acceleration of my 2013 Tacoma TRD O/R DCSB.

I recently sold my 2016 TRD Sport. That thing needed a Pedal Commander or a tune. I bought a 2008 and 2012 and neither of them need any help with throttle response or power. I don't even need ECO mode because my 2008 got 17.5 mpg on my last tank of 50/50 mixed city and highway driving locally.
