Made the mistake of driving in a Ram TRX

There are no real reliability issues here with the gassers, the diesel does have some issues though.

 

The people that talk the most crap are usually unable to afford 70k plus vehicles. I have a spare tire in my Tacoma 5ft bed and I use the shit out of the truck. Just last week I had 2 transmissions and a transfer case in the bed with my 33” spare laying down, It’s still usable. There’s always haters no matter what vehicle it is. Just admit you can’t afford it, it’s a badass truck, and you would happily trade your taco for one in a heart beat.

Less than 100k lifespan on engine and drivetrain is unacceptable for anything made post 2000. Same reason I wouldn't touch a gladiator, they are just shitboxes that barely last the loan if you barely drive them.

 

you could take the tail gate to a really good metal fab shop and have it removed, no where near the 25K you did on the tacoma.
i have actually thought about doing that to my tacoma, just no expert fab shops here on maui.

 

Coming from a diesel F-250 FX4 to a Tacoma was a big change but you're looking at apples to oranges.

I miss the significantly larger cab and the towing capacity to pull whatever I wanted but I took my F-250 out and wheeled it. It was terrible at it. Too big and too heavy. I love the tacoma but I am also planning on buying a 1/2 ton truck as well so that I can tow the travel trailer and do longer road trips with the family. My Tacoma is going to be my wheeling, hunting and fun truck. The 1/2 ton will be the workhorse.

 

Were they Ram transmissions?

 

Hahahahaha, no but they are in the Ram family. 32RH from a Jeep. One has 193k that needed to be rebuilt, the other maybe 40k.

 

For me the TRX (and Raptor) are like a different type of vehicle than a Tacoma. The TRX and Raptor are almost like a Supertruck, in my eyes. They just take everything to the extreme, no matter what you want to do. They look awesome to grab attention, they have big power, a decked out interior with fancy gadgets etc. Just for someone who wants to have an overall badass truck to play with. The Tacoma, on the other hand is like a no-frills, purpose-built truck. It's meant to be reliable and excels offroad, since that is what the name and reputation have always been built on. It's like Toyota's whole philosophy is nothing fancy. Just make it so it works and lasts a long time. And I think that's why tacos have the following that they have. It's a truck to buy it and make it your own and it should last you a long time and get you where you need to go. That is a completely different approach than what a TRX or Raptor are for, in my opinion. Usually something that pushes the edge of performance requires more maintenance and is not as reliable. Very rarely do you get the best of both worlds. And that is likely why the Taco is pretty bland when it comes to performance or fancy options. Both are awesome for their purpose though.

 

Ive never understood why people pay a premium for the TRD Pro , ford Raptor, Ram Trx and then change suspension.

 

Same here, and is exactly the reason I opted for the OR.

I have paid for my last 4 cars in cash. I chose my SR5 because it made the most financial sense. I knew I was going to be replacing all suspension, wheels tires and such. I now have a more capable truck for less than the cost of a Trd OR

 

I went out wheelin the other day and ran into a dude with a done up hellcat jeep. That thing sounded so bad ass that I couldn't help but grin from ear-to-ear listening to the rumble of that supercharged 700+HP motor. He'd also lifted it, threw a winch on there, was running some 37" swampers and probably a bunch of other shit. Super sick Jeep for sure.

After a second tho, I will say that I took a few steps back from it just in case it spontaneously burst into flames lol. At the end of the day, it's still an FCA product and, in this case, you do not get what you paid for lol
