If the top hat your ordered looks different from what's in place (new reengineered design) it may be prudent to order another for the other side preemptively.

Not trying to mess with your head but you might consider looking into the idea of getting new, perhaps even heavier springs. I know my springs for my Kings were right around $200 pair (for 700lb) springs . Kings come in 600lb - 650lb - 700lb with 700lb being the stiffest.. That way you could get your coolness and a lot more preload. :spending:

I didn't know that either except some one said it earlier in this thread. Kings for our trucks come stock with 600lb springs. If you have a heavy metal front bumper, metal skid plate, and winch you need heaver spring. I would say 650 for sure. I have 700 going on my new ones. I had 700 on my old ones but I had all that weight. Don't go by what I say. I'm just giving you food for thought.

Eibach provides the coils for King so they aren’t anything unique.

To be fair, a lot of people who recommend icons haven’t run them. Welcome to TW.

This is but one of their failure points. I made the mistake of going with icons and had nothing but issues. Their customer service was slow and ineffective.

There are better companies out there who want our business.

so far no issues with my Icon stage 3 set up. To be fair, for the handful of people having Issues in here with Icon, there are thousands more with zero issues. YMMV

The closest Icon setup to a base King setup is the stage 8 or 9. Icon is digressive while King and Fox are more progressive/linear.

A lot of times the suspension just isn’t valved correctly for the setup. Most folks throw the suspension on first and just go with a bolt on OEM kit as opposed to last when they have the proper corner weights, travel specs, bump specs etc.

While true we pretty much only see threads on Icons. It’s exceptionally rare to see a King, Fox, ADS post

good point! My Icons already came installed on my Taco when I purchased it with 19k miles, and I will more than likely be swapping to Fox 2.5 dsc when the Icons are done. Until then I will gladly run them through the grinder.

It’s actually more than a handful….and I’d check out other forums as well. Icon is well…dare I say …over-represented….. with regards to bad feedback.

Ive noticed that as well. Just for context though, does Icon sell more parts than Fox, King? Is this Apples to Apples? I’m just asking, as I’m no Icon fanboi, and only running Icon because I got a good deal on a used Taco that already had them installed.

I’m honestly not sure. I can tell you I ran them and had several issues and their support was bad. I would also cautiously hazard a guess bilstein is probably over represented in this forum.

I actually generally dismiss reviews on forums and go with personal recommendations from people I know. A friend of mine ran them on his 2nd gen and had good luck (for awhile). I bought a set, installed them and had three major issues with what I would consider moderate use in a short time span.

Their customer service was non-responsive…their tactic seemed to be akin to wearing me down with bad communication, repeated requests for photos and receipts followed by long periods of no communication…rinse and repeat.

I had an issue with my king set up…a fairly minor one and in contrast, they called me within 15 minutes of my email and overnighted me the parts at their expense. They never bothered to check for a receipt or invoice. They even offered to pay any labor costs if I had a shop do the work.

After my issues with icon I did some belated web research and found these issues and complaints are common.

I think there are too many variables for apples to apples based on just google searching generic revenue, Icon makes the least bearing in mind that Icon also provides UCA, Leaf Packs, Wheels, etc while King sticks to only Shocks. Likewise Fox makes suspension components for mountain bikes, dirtbikes etc while King does not.

I think the main difference is that Icon focuses more on the consumer while King focuses more on motorsports. King pretty much just makes custom shocks for offroad racing (KOH, Dakar, Baja, SST) and stuff but offers their shocks to the public. Fox is just in another revenue world making everything for everything.

Thank you for the welcome. I've been here a while but rarely post. Mostly just read. As far as Icon I haven't ran them and very well could be way off base. I've just gotten the impression that the price seems to be going more to marketing and flashy products then quality built products. I've seen their products in person, checked the construction and engineering out, and saw them in action. Not meaning to bash them they just aren't for me.

At their price point, they just aren't competitive. King, Elka and ADS really provide a superior product for similar $$$.
