Another vote for monitoring the situation. If the only indication of a problem is the leak and there is only a minimal loss of fluid it is a no-brainer for sure. You would be shocked, and put at ease with your situation if you were to have an accurate awareness of leaks of this type in modern automobiles.

If you haven't gotten tires yet the coopers are on sale at Pepboys. Buy three get one.

How many of these trucks have you personally owned? What training or credentials do you have, are you a trained mechanic ? It’s pretty easy to spend other people’s money making suggestions on topics you know little if anything about.

I would not get it done.

I had a 1994 Volvo XC70 that had a similar oil leak and the dealer said not to worry about it until it got worse. Apparently, it was another of those known issues like you are having. The problem started about 50000 miles...or so... and I added less than a quart between changes. I sold the car at 200,000 miles with the same leak. Never once had another problem with it. If it ain't broke...let it ride. Spend your money elsewhere....or don't spend it.

It is my recommendation that you do the research on your particular model. Find out if timing chain breakage, Timing chain guides wearing ect for the mileage that your vehicle has. If you think that you can repair the oil leak or live with it for a bit.

You might be able to drop the oil pan and replace the oil pan gasket and a bit of RTV at the corners of the timing covers and let the rest of the other stuff slide..

It's pretty easy to spend my own as well. OP asked for opinions, I offered mine. I'm not spending OPs money, merely offering another perspective. If that offends you you're free to keep scrolling. What I have to say has literally no bearing on you. Nor do I have to justify my knowledge or experience to you or anyone else.

Nah, just keep driving it like you stole it. Unless it begins to smoke, you’re fine.

I've had a "severe" leak 8/10 severity leak according to the dealership and they quoted me around 2.5k for the water pump, pulley, and the leak. I lost the quote but that was around 3 years ago. You're probably fine, I'd start saving up for it and check your parking area for leaks. Monitor oil religiously. I had no visible oil spots but you could tell oil is leaking down the engine. Still gotta get it fixed. Im at 150k miles though.

if its not leaving a puddle or dripping on the floor leave it.

mine leaked for 10 years, never showed up in the oil level.

if you were actually interested in saving money you'd do it yourself at home for 0 labor cost

Sounds like sub $300 in parts

Not sure what you're talking about. This is a truck forum where we share ideas.

OP: I went through the same issue a few years ago. Dealership said it was a minor leak. I opted to get it done asap as it was my daily driver. They replaced a few other items as well, even though they weren't failing. The pump was one of them. I just couldn't risk my truck breaking down while on the road. I'd do it for peace of mind. Eventually, you will have to get it done. Just my opinion.

Eh, already got the order in. I appreciate it though.

I'm not a mechanic. Got no place to even attempt to work on it and since its my only ride, not a lotta time to learn as I go with it. Also, me trying new things usually don't go well the first few times.

I appreciate your input as everyone else's here :)

Yes for a head gasket the timing cover must be removed in order to pull the head off.

That further solidifies a decision to wait for a bit in my case.

Where the oil leaks is not under pressure the oil is flung around by the chain.

If you clean the area well and apply some sealant to the joint where the cover mates to the head and block at the leak it very likely will work.

    IF it bothers you.

I let mine leak for 10 years. Just checking every so often and using some engine cleaner to clear the crud build up.
