Hello i have a 2021 Tacoma off road , and i was driving up hill, i got to a stop light and got my foot off the gas and then brake.
As i got my foot off the brake and start depressing the gas pedal , my truck Rolled back and started making a clicking mouse and alot of the dashboard lights came on. tried to gas it, but the pedal vibrated. It happened twice now. I dont want to brake my transmission. My truck is online 1200 miles. What i do ? Its a automatic.

Do you have a manual transmission or auto? Let’s start there first.

That's hill start assist. Read your manual, it explains it.

it sounds like you had a traction issue but should be good. These trucks can take a beating and some.

Well.. steep enough hills will cause a auto to roll back. The vibration will be the torque converter trying to counteract that before going forward. Your going to heat the fluid up if you do that slot.. but it shouldn’t hurt the trans if it’s once in a bluemoon..

Now the dash lights and stuff.. you may want to go to the dealer and have it checked for history codes.

Oh the 3rd gens do have hill start? We don’t have hills out here so I haven’t had any complaints about it. Didn’t realise these had it

Yeah, park on a steep enough hill and let it roll back in drive- abs kicks in and it beeps at you while the truck holds itself there for abt 10 seconds. 90% of new toyotas have it.

Hmm I’ll Keep that in mind if someone brings one into the shop with the same complaint. Most do indeed. I didn’t know if the taco had received that or not. The more ya know

That is not Hill Start Assist. Hill Start Assist keeps a vehicle from rolling back. Hill Start Assist is pretty much non existent in these trucks. It sucks!! Any other modern vehicle I have owned, the HSA works great. Even in my daughter's 2020 Rav4 it works fine ,but this is my second 3rd gen Tacoma and it has sucked in both of them.

Yeah probably hill assist or your traction control going off. It makes a clicking noise in the dash and then an exclamation point blinks. Sometimes on real steep hills I’ll two foot it, light on the brake and then gently accelerate and get off the brake.

Make sense, So, the beeping noise , the dashlights, and the vibration on pedal when rolling back in drive, its normal?
The thing is i wished it stopped, but it just keeps rolling back until i Depress the pedal.
