I have a little past experience with Tacomas, which was the main influence in me deciding to buy my own. I had an '01 Acura CL that was just over 100k miles when the tranny started to slip. Took it in and was told it needed to be overhauled. Did some reading online and got the impression that once they start having tranny problems, they keep having them unless you rebuild the whole thing.

So, I traded it in for an 08 Tacoma. One of my sergeants in my platoon had a really nice 4wd pre-runner (I think) that he'd done a bunch of stuff to, and that's really what made me want one. I've got a 4 cyl, 2wd access cab. Only had it for 4 days now. Not a whole lot of features like I'm used to in my old luxury car, but it's a million times more fun to drive, and I plan to add some things if I can learn how, which is part of the reason I'm here anyway. The truck I really wanted was a full cab 4wd with all the fun toys, but those were pretty far out of the range of my college student income. Oh well, that'll be my next truck.

First thing I want to do is put a new stereo unit in. I'm not unhappy with the speakers so that part isn't really important yet, but I'd really like to have a unit with at least an auxiliary port. Satellite radio would be cool too.

Anyone have any advice on where I should get started? Good website for parts, tutorials, and things of that nature? Any recommendations for a good stereo system?

Thanks for the warm welcome ya'll.

One more thing, am I correct in assuming 'tacos' means Tacomas here?

    Welcome!!!
    Yes, Taco means Tacoma.

In your post about you stated that your sergeant had a 4wd pre-runner. A pre-runner Tacoma is made to look like a 4wd but w/ only 2wd. So if you saw pre-runner on the side it was only 2wd. If you look in the forum under the audio/video there is a tuitorial on second gen(2005-Present) Tacoma audio. Here is the link, I'm sure you will find anything you need to know. GL

Thanks again folks. My old sergeant's truck was a 4WD, I know that much for sure. Was a lot of fun, wish I could have afforded one of those.

Thanks for the tips, I've already started digging around in the audio threads and there's tons of great info in there, I can tell I've come to the right place.

@MTgirl, that's the kind of answer I was hoping for. Just testing you!
