500? That makes no sense. You could get a lot more than 500 more than the buyout

My truck was worth like $8,500 in January 2021; It is a base model RC 5-lug with almost 140K miles on the clock and and two separate fender benders on its Carfax (due to a texting driver and a drunk driver in the same year). It is now worth about $12,000!

May also be that the 21’s are ending. Local dealer has 2 of the 22’s here.

Similar story for the truck I'm supposed to pick up in a couple of weeks. In my case, the dealer swapped their allocated Sport with another dealer's allocated OR. Was told if I didn't grab it, I'd be waiting on a '22.

Noticed on a lot of commercials, they are only pushing their used cars. Toyota USA and Honda USA stopped all manufacturing last week BTW. Not just parts, everything. At least that’s what the parts guy told me at Toyota , lol. Better get your car parts now if you need to do maintenance! Not only is there a chip shortage, but there is a silicone shortage. Parts guy was telling me brakes are going to be a big issue. Supply chain issues and Covid is hurting everything again.

I thought the past two years sucked, but i now think we are heading into some really dark times. I fear all sorts of severe shortages are coming, and lack of new trucks will be the least of everyone's concerns if that comes true. I sure hope I am wrong and that my kids have a good laugh after they bury me and are going through all the freeze dried food and ammo that I have been buying lately.

This was my exact case! Sold my 2nd gen for 12,500 but it was babied..

Once the dealership locks you into a new one and you sign a contract for a vehicle that hasn’t been made, they can’t raise the msrp price; it’s bad business practices, I don’t think Toyota corporate allows it either.

When I went to the dealer yesterday to put a deposit on a '22 Tacoma, the sales guy I usually work with said they had their best sales month ever last month selling 800 vehicles. They must be getting them in from somewhere to be able to sell them. Should have asked how many of those were used vehicles.

    A few.
In alot of cases, dealers can make more total profit on used vehicles than new.

Small world, I was just about to post about Thompson. When I started looking in July the lots were 'full' at least between new and used they could fill out the two lots they have. Now they have the cars parked at an angle or sideways to fill out the lot. I am wondering how long this is going to last, there is going to be some hangover from when parts/supplies become readily available to when the supply chain gets caught up. Another year? A few years? I dunno but thinking I could drive my truck for a few years and get out of it pretty good at the rate we are going.

We decided to sell our 2018 Camry back to the dealer. They gave us what we financed for the car in 2019 (bought used). We were able to get rid of the Camry payment and pay off our 4Runner plus have some cash left over.

I bought my reg cab 4wd for 12k with 148k miles. In decent shape, runs good. I was looking at other reg cab 4wd's recently and saw some as high as 21k, obviously from a stealership. Blows my mind because I swear I saw someone say they bought theirs for 18k brand new, could have been a 5 lugger. These prices are ridiculous lol. On the up side, I sold my 2020 trd off road dcsb for $6,000 over msrp with $6,000 in equity to a ford dealership and bought my regular cab with cash.

    A bunch..and no build thread!
The wife and I looked for almost a month before we found a 2021 OR in MGM on a lot. Some of the prices they threw at me for trucks I did not want (Sport, AC, etc) was insane so I knew I was going to get raped on the truck I wanted once I found it. I tried to buy a few used Taco's but couldn't see paying $42K for a 3 year old truck.

Local Toyota dealer also has BMW and Lexus dealers next door; Lexus has a decent amount of new and used inventory, but BMW is pretty empty...

Last week when I went past the Subaru dealer there wasn't much there. Most dealerships have looked almost vacant since last year. Even the Hyundai dealership has been mostly empty. I'd see someone talking an Elantra for a test drive, those don't look that bad. I can't believe people are still buying BMWs these days. They have to be the ugliest vehicles in production today.

When I had my Tacoma in recently for the low pressure fuel pump recall my service writer looked on his computer and saw that we have three toyotas and jokingly commented "you have more toyotas in your driveway than we have on our whole lot most days" we laughed but from what I saw when I pulled in he may be right. Their featured spots on the lot had a used Chevy and a Ford Ranger park in them.

This is not a Toyota dealer but a used car dealership that’s been here for a long time. They bring all makes of brand new vehicles, mostly trucks and most of them are lifted. This is a pic I took this morning. 2021’s lined up and even a Pro. They’ll definitely get sold even on an island with 75k people and the lot will thin out but they bring in a lot of Tacoma’s. Pricing? None on the windows that I saw today, sometimes they put em on and sometimes there will be prices on the website. My guess is the lowest price you’ll see is about 48k.
