Overall

Vehicle DRL circuit, connector 1F pin 30 at Main Body ECU

Bright side

Dim side

Relays, coil Low activated (negatively/ground) by DRL 1F_30 tie

Relays actuated by tie to Unlock/Door Open cab illumination circuit.

Upon unlock (Most Tacoma versions) Headlight DRL and V5 Bright DRL are ON. Same for when Door Open input (x1~4) is received to main Body ECU.
Diodes are there to prevent feedback to Main Body ECU.

This install provides the V5 a parallel function with the Headlight DRL and all controlled by the DRL select position on the light stalk (if present).

Also, for those with SR (and contemplating on adding the mirror turn signals), the terminal at 1F_30 is active too, so a wire that can wedge into the space will do (still working on finding correct terminal and source)

That’s a surprise… @daveeasa your harness doesn’t provide the full drl functionality from the stalk? Thought it did.

Caribe is saying no to the question of “is it the same”. Perhaps a better question is “does it behave the same?” However the answer is still a bit of a no. The ECU controls the DRL signal such that if you start the truck and leave parking brake engaged, headlight DRL is off even if stalk is DRL.

For layman’s terms it’s close enough to match expectations. But it’s not “the same”. Adds a relay but eliminates need to run through the firewall.

Difference on headlamp T is the DIM input to V5 happens before Low beams are selected. So you get Bright DRL at the Headlights and DIM at the V5..that is all.

I will check this on the truck, stalk to parking lights? Pretty sure headlights dim. I suspect you know better than me though.

 

Verified many times, that is why the diode is in place for the grill lights. So many crimps and exposure to materials that may cause illness...has its effects on the memory

So +1 on verifications. Interesting bit of trivia. I didn’t realize this before today. I though DRL from ECU goes off with parking lights on.

I suppose the mirrors matching the headlights offers the best symmetry. But not sure I like this behavior for either.
