Actually....even oils of different weights won't really hurt anything. However, mixing different weights can throw off the W number....the 1st number some. So if you experience very cold temps in the winter it's best to keep the W numbers close together if you're going to use a Frankenbrew. So mixing a 0wXX with a 5wXX is fine. But mixing a 0wXX with something like a 20wXX might cause some sluggish starting in extreme temps. If you live in a moderate climate then that W number doesn't mean much. Mix away

TW oil threads should be in a completely separate section requiring members to read a disclaimer, and electronically swear on their Toyota manuals to behave.

I recall a commercial with the following catch phrase.....

Pay me now.......or pay me later.

Technically, you don't HAVE to change the oil. The engine will run.....to a point.

Most dealers use bulk oil for oil changes. They buy locally and fill up a large storage tank in the shop. The oil is pumped through hard lines in the shop.

Missed that he was trying to be sly about the other oil. So, yeah... screw that guy. He should have told you straight up that they didn't have enough of the Toyota oil.

Valvoline is headquartered where I live. So a lot of places, including Toyota, bulk it

They’re known to be restrictive to oil flow. Nothing dangerous if you don’t do anything crazy but there’s a reason why no classic car or higher-performance car has a fram oil filter

    no doubt.

However, I will let you know straight up it happened to me personally.

My first truck, a used dodge I bought at a local dealer ship. 17YO with money from my first job and first car. Did the first oil change with a fram filter and it seized the engine because the filter did some shit that blocked the flow of oil. The engine seized and dodge replaced the engine and it did not cost me anything. That truck is long gone but to this day I will not buy or use a Fram filter for anything other than a field expedient can...:D

    later 80s / Early 90s.

It does happen and it is real and so it is not an urban legend. However, that was 40 years ago so I doubt it is happening now....

You can find stories on any brand of filter if you dig. I'll run a Fram Ultra any day

    No worries.

I have never heard of a Toyota filter causing that issue. For the small cost savings, an OEM filter is worth it even if Fram has fixed the issue, I was personally burned so the $3 difference in price is worth it to me. YMMV.
