Technically not supposed to lube to push on the fitting as it can potentially cause it to push off easier. Clamp fitting in a vice. Double fist the hose and push.

Soak the hose in boiling water first to soften and they slide right on

Eh it was on the low pressure return lines. I wasn’t worried. Even with the one I forgot to add the pinch clamp, I had a hell of a time removing the hose off the fittings.

Seen it first hand. I know it seems crazy. Just throwing it out there because it’s definitely not recommended to lube push locks. I’ve kinda had a peeve for push locks after seeing some things. I’ll likely have hydraulic hoses made up when the truck gets tore down in the spring.

I mean I forgot the pinch clamp, held the fitting in a vice grip at the floor, and I was pulling and pulling and couldn’t get it to back off. I honestly ended up taking the pinch clamp apart and put it back together around the hose and fitting then clamped it. I really do not see it going anywhere. Especially on the low pressure hose. If these saw more pressure and didn’t have a clamp, I could see there being an issue.

How much pressure you think the return side can see on cold startup? Or just at operating temp? I’ve seen push locks fail with less than 30psi in them. Not trying to argue, I just don’t agree with your advice. The hoses do get soft at higher temps. I haven’t pulled a temp from my cooler, but I know it will burn me. Already did that once messing with my winch.

Oh by no means am I pushing it as advice. I should edit out of my post. I didn’t know that about push locks. I continue to say I learn something new on this thread all the time. I just stated what I did. I don’t know what psi they see. Without the crimp clamp I could not pull the hose off the fitting. They’re designed for use without a clamp, With the crimp clamp, it has to be over kill when Toyota uses a tension butterfly clamp and a hose end like this :

All push lock fittings are able to handle at least 100psi when installed correctly. The oetiker clamps provided are definitely overkill.

17-18 as discussed. I shot for center, but might be at 18. My neck was like a half inch to an inch shy of being back to normal location so it makes me think it was just a smidge too far back. It all cycles properly.

I mean technically the barb end that the hydraulic hose is pretty much the same as a push lock just different clamping method which allows a lot higher pressure when done correctly (hose rating is different too). They still fail and there is no easy "trail" repair when they do. I'd go -AN or what JD sends. After making and repairing more hydraulic lines than I care to even remember they aren't any better or worse than other methods especially for our lower pressure (in terms of hydraulics) of the PS system.

I’ve never seen a single hydraulic hose come apart at the fitting. Sure, maybe it can happen. My concern with push locks is when it’s -30 out, the truck gets started and immediately goes to high idle and there’s 200+psi in the return. That’s the ONLY reason I have paranoia over them. I’ve seen oil coolers and trans cooler lines come apart on a cold morning. Not everybody lives where it’s warm every day. So I figure, good advice is good advice. I’m really not trying to argue, merely stating facts.

On normal vehicles 200psi is not out of reality on a cold start. We’ve seen pressures like that when it’s 40 degrees out. What kind of pressure is this Howe going to make when it’s colder? I’ve got absolutely nothing against how the kit is put together, I just don’t believe pushlock is going to work for every single person.
