Hey all, I believe I’ve posted about this before, not sure, definitely didn’t get the answers I needed if I did, but anyways, 2006 SR5, 4wd will engage no problem when the truck is cold, but as soon as it’s been driving for a bit and the engine is up to temp the 4wd light will just blink. Every so often it’ll click into place, but it’s quite rare. I just replaced the front diff actuator so I’m relatively confident that isn’t the issue. I have read about other people having this issue but haven’t seen anybody give what fixed it. Any help would be appreciated, would like to finally get this issue solved.

To add more info, basically it’ll work fine when the truck is cool and hasn’t been driven for a bit. Once it’s been driven a bit, if you try and switch it to 4hi the light flashes and never goes solid, once you switch back to 2hi the light shuts off. I can hear the relay and at least one, if not both actuators working. Been dealing with this for 2 years and really want to fix it finally.

Update got it to engage 4-6 times after going for a drive but took about 50 turns of the switch to 4hi

Have you changed your transfer case fluid or verified that it's full and in good condition?

I topped it off yesterday when I changed out the diff actuator. So I’m sure that it’s full.

I just reread. I have not touched the transfer case, I guess I’ll top it off tomorrow and see. I wouldn’t think there’d be too much issue since it’ll engage if it’s cold. It’ll engage warm but it takes a lot of flipping from 2hi to 4hi before it’ll actually catch.

Check and make sure the vent hose is not disconnected from the transfer case actuator, if it is water and dirt get in there and screw things up.
You can take it apart and try to clean it, that fixes some of them.

It looked connect, the end connected to the actuator was splitting at the very end so I cut it below the splits and put it back on, it wasn’t bad enough that stuff would get in, but I’m sure if I’d let it get worse it would’ve.

We’re you saying I should take the rear actuator apart? Should I do that and clean it?

Wouldn't be a bad idea especially if that vent hose is disconnected.
Alot of good info about it in the thread below.
