Plagiarized from a sight I frequent...
A simple AR of good quality would be an A2 or A3 - fixed stock with handguards. The Brownells' gunbuilder is a great toy to play with, but until specific uses are nailed down, it usually results in an internet tacticool gamers gun, anything but simple.

Look at what features you need (not want): Adjustable stock? they cost twice as much minimum, don't offer a verified improvement in accuracy, if anything, they rattle, squeak, can slip the notch and fail, expose the buffer tube to damage, and only work if you need to wear body armor.

Quad rails are nice, usually free floated, weigh more than handguards, offer 4 feet of picitinny rail, and aren't user friendly, so ladder guards go on, weighing them down more. Add a scope, light, VFG/bipod, side sling mount, pressure switches, you get a nice entry team carbine that's optimized for storming mud huts and motel rooms. Don't forget the black balaclava. If you only practice in tire houses, all will be well, but none of that will help make a 200m shot in the dead of winter (except maybe the balaclava to keep your nose warm.) The simple A3 would do better with a 4X scope.

It's good to keep it simple, the latest fads and fantasies are basically a game of oneupmanship and credit rating for male enhancement. Simple is better, a Bargain Bin rifle could serve well with the difference in price spent on the thousands of rounds planned. Once it begins to show need for improvement, time will have passed and all the research will become clearer as to what and why things are done in certain ways. It takes owing and shooting one to understand the nuances and separate the marketing hype from the day to day reality.

 

I built up a custom 6.8 mm (.270) AR-15 for my primary deer/pig gun in Texas. It shoots 3/4" groups at 200 yards with the Barnes 95 gr. TTSX (awesome pig round). My daily plinker is the Sierra 110 gr. Pro Hunter and I hand load all. My upper was built by AR Performance and they are fantastic.

Got to love the colts, my buddy picked up that one at the Va gun show. 24" heavy, floating grip, with comp trigger, 15x scope, and an articulating bipod. It's a nail driver!

Lol, it takes some umph. That locking pin hanging down needs to be pulled really hard (down) and the stock will slide right off.

 

instead of pushing up on the slide release lever(a) push it down
