I'll hold off for the smaller pulley to make more noise.

Yes I realize the smaller improve the whine. Has magnuson released anything for their kits yet? Any aftermarket options?

Maybe you could measure your pulley to get an idea of where to start? I would imagine any smaller TVS 1900 pulley will work. Link below. I supercharged my FJ and my 3rd gen 4runner and I wouldn’t go any less than 0.1” smaller. Prob 8-9 lbs boost. Beyond that start to run into fueling issues but also heat related issues. My knock sensor harness, (sitting directly below the supercharger), started throwing codes right after installing the smallest pulley URD offers.

Given how conservative the magnuson tune is… 0.1” smaller pulley might be the sweet spot.

Dude… new thread worthy! Which one has the correct offset and is the stock one two piece 6 rib? I don’t event have my supercharger yet and about to place an order for the smaller pulley lol!

i watched the video just now. Actually I was the first to do this mod a couple months ago. I briefly swapped out my homemade mustang sound tube for this universal fosters sc mod. I immediately ripped it back out and said NOPE.

it sounded exactly like a kazoo in my car and brought in TONS of other undesirable noises. Adding the muffler from the mustang sound tube helped, but ultimately I cannibalized the larger hose from the foster kit and added it to my mustang sound tube and it’s perfect for me.

I wish I had a video. The intake noise was hilarious in person. I took one drive around the block and removed it faster than any other mod I’ve ever done lol.

here it is enjoying its 15 minutes of existing behind my ECM before it was repurposed into spare parts.

this is what’s on my truck now. It sounds much more realistic compared to the floor kazoo I had from fosters.

Also @Doostur to actually answer your question after that rant lol.

Try a pod type filter. They will let A LOT more induction noise out into the engine bay than an air box set up.

Question for you guys. Truck is at 38k miles. What maintenance should I perform with installation of the magnuson supercharger? Spark plugs?

The Magnuson instructions tell you to change the plugs if your truck has over 10k miles during the install. I had right at 12k and did not change my plugs. Seems like overkill especially when they want you to replace with stock plugs in the first place. There's no way that the plugs are bad in my case. Closer to 50k, I'd seriously think about replacing them.

Go on the site and download the install manual from the site. Tells you everything you need. Buy everything now proactively from local auto store like autozone etc. Also decide if you want a boost gauge and buy what you need.

The 6 rib 15.57 mm offset pulleys are the parts that work here.

Is that pulley confirmed to make for a louder whine? If so why wouldn't magnuson include that in the kit? How will that pulley effect performance.... Will the tune need to be adjusted?

Smaller pulley, faster spin, more boost, more power, extra noise. The main issue is making sure the fuel system can keep pace with demands. AFR needs to be monitored closely, as things are already close to the ceiling.

There is probably more power available in a tune at the supplied 6 - 7 psi boost levels. That is where we should start, and eventually someone will have it available. For now, a pulley swap to 8 + psi should give some gains and not grenade anything.

Cooling upgrades are recommended, especially for hotter regions.

Thanks for the explanation! It would be nice if Magnuson offered an expansion kit to include everything you just mentioned. However I think the Crapifornia compliance thing is whats holding/limiting things.

Thanks! Yes, I’ve purchased the items mentioned in the install manual and this thread.

Thanks! Ordered the 87mm. Going with that pulley right out of the box. Will do a baseline dyno, stock pulley and 87 mm run for you folks. Magnuson tune.

Why do you think California is holding things back? I always thought we only have a Magnuson super charger because of California. Maybe we should thank California. :)

The tune must be CARB compliant in order to pass smog/emissions inspection. They are regulated by the output of the motor in order to stay compliant. In other words, less power, keeps Commifornia happy. I asked Magnuson why they don't offer different tunes for customers in different states. Simply put it would be too hard to monitor/people take advantage who may live in regulated states (aka Hippifornia).

Why do you think CARB compliant means less power? Without California economy, hard to imagine Magnuson would even sell a super charger.

Nothing wrong with keeping emissions within reasonable levels which is what compliance with the CARB regulations does.
