And only $75,000, + options! Wait a bit and the base model will be out and it’s a cheap $67,500 without options which can add another $2-5k!
Can’t afford it? well at least you’ll be subsidizing those who can with your tax dollars since they can get a federal subsidy of $6500 so you’re still involved!

But that $75k gets you a truck that is better than a Tacoma in every way except quick gas stops.

In response to the thread title, no. No plan to trade for or to acquire an E truck. Simple reason is that there is no facility to charge in my apt building parkade at the moment. Plus, by the time all the gas stations have switched to charging only I’ll likely not be needing any vehicle anymore.

Better in every way? Let’s talk again in 5 years after we see how many issues this first year model has. Let’s see the reliability results. :)
And it’s not better for distance without stopping for a charge. The Rivan requires more and longer stops than my Tacoma.
I think hybrids and electrics are the way of the future and the Rivan is very interesting. What it’s not though is a time tested proven reliable truck.

We discussed the rivian at work in after meeting. General consensus was it is most likely capable off road but the design choices mean that will be well suited to look great at the charger in the whole foods parking lot.

Reliability is a definite unknown but most modern vehicles are reliable right out of the factory. For highway driving the 400 mile Rivian I have on order would require fewer but longer stops based off my driving. I only get a maximum of 300 miles on a tank when at freeway speeds in the Tacoma, less if it's going into a steady headwind for an extended period like my last trip across Kansas.

Could you imagine driving the Rivian, or any EV truck and having to report to the manager that there is a gas power Civic hatchback parked in the EV charging space. That you need removed so you can charge your truck.

First year models of anything always have some issues, hopefully the Rivans won’t be anything major and should be covered under warranty. Let us know your first impressions when you get it. And you’re welcome for my portion of the federal subsidy we pay for with our taxes lol.

I'm not holding my breath to get it anytime soon but will definitely post about it when I do. I'm looking forward to topping off the "tank" for $20 at my current house electric rates rather than the $75+ that my Tacoma costs.

The Rivan seems impressive reading about it and watching videos. Should be great off-road and on. Did you get the Launch Edition? Yes please give an extensive review when you have a chance to drive it and test all the features!

Launch Edition is limited to 300 mile battery pack. If you want the Max Pack battery (400+ mile range) you have to wait until a bare minimum January of 2022, based on when you placed your preorder.

For comparison, you are adding 45kWh for what would cost $30,000 as Tesla Powerwalls. Given that Rivian is talking about Vehicle2Grid capability, like the Ford Lightning, this could be well worth the upgrade.

I spent a lot of time researching having a E truck and I eagerly await the real world driving range when towing . I have seen a well thought out diagnosis of a trucks range being less than 100 miles when towing a travel trailer . Charging would take up to 12 or more hours to charge , so a 300 miles trip could take over three days lol. The future is adding extra battery capacity built into the travel trailer to hook up to the truck but this would add more time to charging so - drive farther and wait longer in between drives. Get to camping destination and hook up to the electric and wait for maybe 24 hours or more to have any power for the camping because the power available is fully used for charging . Can you see someone paying 75K or more for a new truck , then having to buy a travel trailer with an extra 40K or more battery pack + cost of a new trailer designed to house said battery pack , then have a range of maybe 200 miles ?.

I was recently watching a video on how they come up with range ratings and foreign countries were more accurate as they were based closer to how an average driver would use them. Anyways they had a good suggestion as there should be 2 ratings of low and high. The low being driven on a super hot or cold day with all the accessories on full blast and the high number on a perfect day with no accessories that way you know even when driven in the extremes you would be guaranteed to make it to the low number no matter what.

I’d expect the same of the ratings on gas cars.

Which we basically have already with a city and highway rating.
