Where do you mount your GPS Navigation device

Just got a new Tomtom One 125 GPS. Any suggestions as to where to mount it in my '09 Acess cab? While the windshield is logical, I can't hear the voice when I have my radio rocking. It has a mount which can stick to something but the dash isn't flat enough for the adhesive.

 

Try the window right next to the door pillar??

 

I have garmin nuvi and eventually tossed the window mount in the garbage after the gps hit the floor for about the hundredth time. I got one of those "friction mounts" that just sits on top of the dash and doesn't slide around. I've never use anything else now - doesn't move, doesn't fall off, easy to hide/move. I think it was 25 for the mount but well worth it

 

I mounted my Garmin Quest 2 down low on the windshield to the left of the steering wheel next to the door pillar. It iis easy to see, easy to push the buttons with the left hand and is not as visible as one mounted in the middle of the windshiled. I leave a Gators hat in front of it so it is not easily visible through the windshield.

 

Mine's mounted by the door pillar b/w my steering wheel and the window, as low as possible. Anywhere else gets in my way. The power cord is wrapped once around the steering column. It doesn't look great, but it's not obvious and it keeps it out of the way.

 

Mounted mine on the windshield really close to the door, then hardwired it to the truck to keep the charging cord hidden/ out of the way.

 

I have a Garmin C340 and it's mounted on the windshield, just slightly to left of the rear view mirror and slightly lower than the mirror. I can still see the front right corner of the front fender and hood. Easier to use there than on the left side if it's mounted by the door pillar IMO.

 

Last Friday on the news they were showing some mall around here that hired on city cops to walk around the parking lot and leave notes saying to be careful about leaving electronics out in plain sight. Seems GPS units are becoming the favorite smash-and-grab items for thieves lately.

 

This may not be an option for you, but I've used a suction cup mount in the past. Link is below to a similar item I've used. It is easy to stick to just about any flat window. The mounting plate, although in this case is for a Sirius radio, will fit many different electronic devices.

I never leave mine in the mount on the windshield. I take it out and bring it inside.

 

This is exactly where mine's mounted. Not hardwired in (b/c I occasionally take it in my wife's car on trips), but right in that spot. Love it there.

In my boat! Lowrance GPS/Fish finder. Ok not what you meant. But this is the only GPS unit I have at the moment.

I have one of those vent mounts on the right hand, driver side vent(left of the stereo). I leave the mount on but take the gps with me.

 

I like this idea! Anyone have a "how-to' on hard wiring the GPS?

 

I've got one in the works. haven't had the free time to post yet

Longhorn, what dashkit did you go with - Schoshe or Metra?

 

It's Scosche, but I keep thinking I'm gonna buy a Metra kit. The Scosche is cheap.
