I bought a Kenwood DMX907S and installed it about 3 months ago or so.

I’ve had a minor issue where the HU will crash and restart while I’m driving. I also have a Maestro, and the MPG gauges will also reset.

Should I suspect the Maestro having an issue or the HU? It doesn’t seem to happen at any certain time, such as using a certain screen or hitting a bump in the road. Just happens randomly when I’m not even touching any buttons. Anyone else have this problem?

My HU has the latest firmware update. This isn’t a major issue, mind you. It’s happened maybe 4-5 times over the past few months. I would just like to figure out the issue.

I have the same head unit. The first one I did the kenwood update before installing and had the same problem as you. Crutchfield sent me another one and I didn't update it and its been working good for close to a year. Not sure if that helps but something to think about. They sent me a new maestro first and that did not fix the problem. It was random in the middle of driving just reboot

My pioneer does this pretty frequently and I’m pretty sure it’s the Maestro because right before it shuts off, the screen goes black and it throws the message
“This function is currently not available” or something like that. And then it shuts off.
I just haven’t taken the time to figure it out for sure.

My OEM HU does this in my '14. Random, sometimes will go days without doing it and then this a.m. on my way to work it did it three times.

My dnx997xr does the same thing. It’s super inconsistent, it’s like it just crashes for some reason

At first at thought it was the wiring but I pulled it out the dash and couldn’t get it to restart jiggling the wires. Eventually one day it did it while I was parked shortly after I started the truck.

if it happened more frequently, I’d put more effort into trying to get it fixed

My Kenwood does this from time to time. Sometimes it goes months, sometimes weeks. Its so infrequent I forget about it until it happens. Also have maestro, so this could be it. Never thought to check the gauges to see if anything changes there. Originally I thought it was the wiring, but not sure now. I have almost same headunit (same except one model year back) in my FJ with maestro and xm radio module and never had it crash once. idk..

I still say it's kenwoods latest update.I didn't update my new head unit and it's been fine. Did it with 2 other kenwoods and 2 other maestros. Luckilly crutchfield just kept sending new stuff till I got it sorted out

Damn, thanks for the reply! Honestly this is what I wanted to hear. I contacted Kenwood and they suggested that I check all my wiring, and if that didn’t fix it to send it into a repair center.

I was very careful to check every connection before installing, and I soldered the wiring, so I really don’t believe it’s that. I spent WAY too much time getting all the wiring shoved in so the radio and faceplate were flush, so I really don’t want to pull it out without having a solid suspicion.

Did you happen to speak to Kenwood about your suspicions that it’s the update? I might mention it to them.

I don’t seem to be getting any error messages of any kind, so I’m crossing my fingers that it is the firmware update like the commenter above. I’ll keep that in mind though!

Not sure if you can go backwards and remove the update but that was definitely my problem. I just figured the first time I would put the current update on before I closed it all up and it was an epic fail. Was doing the random reboot way too often. All good now

It’s not too much of a problem for now, so I’ll just wait until a new firmware update most likely haha. I think my main concern is if something is wrong with my specific head unit, but it’s so infrequent, I’m thinking it’s the firmware.

Yup that's the notification I get every time my pioneer shits the bed and turns itself off. I've thought about getting a different Maestro unit and replacing it but I dont have an extra $150

That’s not the same error message it gives me. I’ve never seen this one before

Had this issue with the wifes 906s, now it restarts every so often instead of almost every time the vehicle is driving.
I never bothered fixing it because its in her car...

I believe I was told to try running the Accessory wire to the radio from before it goes into the Maestro.
Something about it dropping accessory voltage out of the Maestro randomly causing the head unit to restart.

Contact iDatalink aka Maestro and see what they say, their tech support is first class.

Can also try reflashing the Maestro.

I didn't try anything....Its the headunit in my wifes car, so I just hear her complain about it.

It used to do it almost every time she drove the car(2-3 times a week). Now it only does it about once a month.
She has a DMX906s in her 2015 Corolla(which is basically the same headunit as yours).

I have a 9906XR in my 2015 Taco and I don't think it has done it once to me in the last 10months.

I've finally fixed the problem. I contacted Auto Harness house (https://autoharnesshouse.com/11443.html) and used one of their wiring harnesses. The radio finally works like it's supposed to. I went with their steering wheel control module and ditched the Maestro; it ended up being 100 bucks for the module and all the harnesses I needed. So it cheaper than the maestro. It seemed like I would get a maestro error every-time it cut off. Put this harness in two weeks ago it hasnt turned off yet!... it was doing it like twice a week before... I probably just jinxed myself and it'll turn itself off tomorrow lol
