I actually bought one this time too with so much pricey electronics on board, was worth it to me.

I bought my 2018 Taco used last year. One of the big deciding factors to buy this particualr truck over other ones I was looking at was that the previous owner had spent the big bucks on the extended warranty. It was transferable and gives me warranty until 2025.

I'm not sure I would pay for it when buying new, but it does affer some resale value in the future perhaps.

The new tundra looks like Lexus designed it with the biggest grill bumper combination ever. Not a fan.

I think it depends on what your dealer will offer you. We bought my wife a new 4Runner pre covid/chip shortage and got a deal On the vehicle and platinum warranty was like $1,600ish I think. When I went to get my 21 Tacoma in July they wouldn’t budge on a 100k warranty less then $2,800. In that case, everything would have to go wrong AFTER my 3yr/36k and I’d have to shell out $3k on repairs to break even on the warranty. If it helps you sleep at night then get it but don’t pay out the ass for it.

Probably a good idea to call that Wolverine dealership that is recommended on TW a lot if looking to get the EW.

I know this doesn’t answer your question but I never buy extended warranties. I self insure. Think about how much the warranty company is making.

This will be what I do in the future. Bought an EW for way too much money when I can repair most things myself, or have a local shop do it for cheap.

After beating on my 2021 for a year I think buying the EW was a mistake for sure. My taco is a tank

I didn't buy it. I've thought about a few times and a very small part of me kind of wishes I had, but I figured if something major happens to my truck I'll dump it and buy something else. I still haven't reached 11k miles on my 2017, so hopefully the truck continues to hold together for a while longer. :burnrubber:

I am guessing the next Generation 4Runner and Tacoma will have equally hideous grille's too.

I got it on my 2018 4Runner, but sold the 4RUnner after a year, but i cashed it out :). And then i got it just now on my 2021 Pro, 10/yr 125k miles for <$2k. For me that was just too cheap not to have it. I saw the post about not being able to cash it out now, but i am going to double confirm that when my warranty paperwork shows up. 7 years additional coverage for ~$20 a month was worth is for me (assuming i spread the cost just over the 7 years of additional coverage). Thats not too much more than AppleCare on a laptop…

I normally shun them, however I'll likely buy one from Toyota in a year or so when the factory warranty is up. As others have said there are a lot of electronics and sensors on this truck plus some known issues some people have had (such as the Timing Cover leak on the 3.5V6).

I did not get the extended and at about 55k I had a fuel injector go bad. It was expensive, and I was worried, but I'm at 95k now and have not had any other issues with the truck. In my case, paying for repairs out of pocket has been less money than a extended warranty.

Never gotten an extended warranty. I do all the simple work myself. The warranty company takes the repair cost averages across a million cars from 0miles to 125k (or whatever term you specify) and add a profit margin. There is the occasional person who has a transmission dump out at 90k and a $1500 warranty saves them a $3k repair bill. BUT what has always worried me is as a shady tree mechanic, it leaves too much room for the warranty company or the dealer to wiggle out of a big repair. I follow the book maintenance on all the fluids. But all I have to show for it is receipts for the fluids. If my engine goes at 90k miles and all I got is a bunch of autozone receipts for oil and filters, they have way more room to deny me than someone that spent $120 on dealer oil changes. I also offroad and modify the truck. A lifted truck with mud caked on the bottom and a pile of autozone receipts...ehhhh I dont like my odds.

Geico has a great deal on mechanical breakdown coverage. I think I pay $20 per year for up to 7 years and up to 100k miles. $250 deductible and you can repair anywhere. Too cheap to pass up, but you have to do it within the first 15 months and 12k miles I think.

See how good their warranties are when you come to use them.Would not trust Geico as far as you can throw them.
I myself would not bother with extended warranties they are a money maker for Toyota. I had a 2014 Venza and traded it on my new Tacoma. The Venza had 250,000 km and never had any issues other than normal wear and tear so I saved myself all that extended warranty money that I did not use towards one.
