    Do you have a 3rd Gen or 2nd Gen ? 3rd Gen doesn’t need plugs until 100k

3rd. It’s listed in the maintenance booklet for 60k. Is the toyota book wrong?

This was your estimate. You didn’t actually pay that, correct?

Honestly its a little too late since you already had it done and paid for. Next time get the suggestions up front, comparison shop for the things you can't do yourself, buy the parts separately for the things you can.

Edit: just saw you canceled. Good Job. Buy the filters yourself - those are toolless and easy.

    Shop around for everything else.

Be wary asking about maintenance/labor cost on this forum. It’s full of DIY skilled people with the knowledge and tools and desire to never pay anyone a single dollar for any maintenance. You could get a $25 oil change and you would have people yelling at you that you could have done it yourself for $24.95. Time is money and things are “worth” exactly what you’re willing to pay for them. Shopping around is always a good idea. Personally, I stick to manufacturer recommended maintenance, not dealer recommended. I replace my own engine and cabin air filters and my own wiper blades. That’s about it. And I’m fine with that because it’s what I’m comfortable doing. If I’m not comfortable doing something, I’m more than happy to pay someone else to do it. This applies to just about everything. For example, I do all of my own yard work and pruning, but I call in experts if I need a large tree trimmed. I have a neighbor that will spend months of his time after work doing something that he could pay to have done for like $500-$1000 in a day or two by a professional, but he has a landscaping company do literally 100% of his yard work. He probably pays $200-$300 a month for that. To each their own.

your logic is solid and in line with mine. I’m in the dark in this field though and $1300 seemed excessive for spark plugs and read differential fluid replacement… all the other items seemed like fluff. Im not sure if it’s a scam yet but I’m going to shop around and research before i commit to paying that much. I will def be requesting a cost breakdown.

independent shops are almost always a better bet unless it’s warranty work. They actually have to build a rep for themselves instead of people blindly trusting them (as they do at a dealer).

And most Indy shops aren’t flat rate guys scrambling for ways to cut corners so they can beat book time, sending everything home with air impacts because fuck it, etc etc.

You could drive that truck 200k miles with only changing the oil and never have a problem. Youtube is your friend for cabin filter and air filter. Drive it. Never ever let the dealer touch your truck unless you are in warranty and it needs a warranty item or a recall.

Imho and in my experience the people/technicians that do this work are hit or miss ( some are good to be fair) and often do not care.. they just want to get it done asap....this often breeds shotty work and getting charged alot so I learn to do it my self. Jm2cw of course. I do have a decent tool set, a few competent 'phone a friends' and the desire to be cheap....

I personally never drop the truck off and say....do the scheduled maintenance at xyz miles..its a really good way to pay way too much. What I do is look at the suggested maintenance at xyz mileage and when I drop it off I tell them exactly what I want done off that list.

Good example is on the scheduled maintenance for the lower mileages where the only thing they are really doing is changing the oil. If I go in and say, do the 30K service, they will charge me over $100 and all they really did that was necessary was change the oil. I just say, change the oil and $50 later I'm out. A stop by discount tire for a free tire rotation and poof, I have done the 30K service.

    Replace Engine Air Filter
    Replace Spark Plugs
Replace Engine Oil And Oil Filter
Replace Cabin Air Filter (If Equipped)

@60k but not 65k, so I am assuming it wasn't done. Odd I was under the impression that we had 100k mile plugs. They are quite expensive as they are iridium. So I would assume parts @ retail are about $100 for the plugs + labor @ $200 an hr (SF standard)

+ bunch of "inspections" they were supposed to do.
You can obviously get it done cheaper, but for "dealer" service $1300 isn't BAD, yea yea I know you can do it for $100 in parts yourself. But that isn't really the point. If you're going with an Indy I would expect about $600-700 for the same services, however make sure they use OEM toyota parts or bring your own.

Rear diff oil is listed to be replaced if "you're towing".

In the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, there are facebook groups (several) for Tacoma and 4Runner enthusiasts. Mostly likely your geo is the same.

Joining a group and asking for shop recommendations is one way to find some local shops that do good work. The key emphasis being finding a shop that does good or excellent work, and won’t rip you off.

I have learned in life that good doesn’t necessarily mean cheap. Sometimes you need to pay more for quality. That may in fact be the dealer in your area, but you’ll need to do research to find the best value close to you. Research is your friend. Information is powerful. But you literally have to trust your instincts.

Good luck. What city are you in?
