Colorado is tough regardless but with all of that weight you will want the extra gearing with 5.29s. You'll get 10mpgs up Vail but then cruise down the other side to about 18 mpgs (depending)

Agreed. Changing to 5.29s wasn't a huge life-changing experience. I still can't back my truck up any more than a slight incline w/o wanting to put it in low range

HELP! I"m having 5.29's installed on my 2016. It's been in the shop for a week now and the rental car is getting expensive. I took it to a place that specializes in differentials and gears and they have done dozens of these changeovers and came with high recommendations. However, they have hit a snag. The tech is getting a "2WD to 4WD shift failure" message on the dash notifcations. Which means something in the electronics won't allow it to be shifted into 4WD. They are currently baffled at the solution. Anyone here ever encounter this? I can't afford the rental much longer. Just my luck! :(

    ADD related? @Texoma @thefatkid

I’ve only done D60s and 14bts so don’t have all the electronics to deal with.

If it wasn't doing it before, then it can only be related to them removing the front diff. There is a wire connector going to the ADD actuator and another going to the diff temp sensor. I would check those connections 1st, make sure they're plugged in all the way. If that doesn't resolve it, there may be a broken wire. Have them pull the harness and ohm it out.

They more than likely forgot to unconnect a wire and stretched somewhere. Either that or they forgot to plug it back in, which seems unlikely. They need to check it with a multimeter to see if it's getting proper power. Also there is a vaccum line running to it that needs to be connected.

It's not vac, just a breather. It wouldn't make a difference to the 4wd engagement. It will however make a difference once shit starts getting wet. I think that it's most likely they didn't disconnect the harness and they stretched a wire. Pretty common with the speed sensor lines to do that, and I imagine the lines going to the ADD are probably just as fragile.

It was inside the ADD. One of the metal contacts for the motor had become disconnected. Couldn't tell visually but you could slip a piece of paper in between the tabs. Resoldered and back on the road. Thanks everyone. I hope this discovery saves someone else the headache

Just got some installed at ECGS today. So far so good on the initial drive, just a ghostly howl in the mid 60's when you let off the gas

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
I have that going on too. It didn’t happen when I first had the gears, it came about after my lift. I am guessing that it’s my pinion angle.
I don’t t think it’s the gears making the noise but more of a harmonic sound when your angles get a bit out of whack.

I am going to do some measurements, maybe order some shims and will report back.

That's interesting. I had the lift on before the 5.29s and there weren't any harmonic sounds at that point

Nitro or Yukon? Im following the shop's/manufacture's instructions and have yet to exceed 60mph at 80 miles logged since install. Once I get to 100 miles, I'll do some short highway driving at or around 60 so the verdict is still out on noise here with Yukon's. 50mph is not even noticeable.

I'm anxious to here your results with the shims. I've got some howl going on at about 60MPH and it's even worse up at 80MPH
