What Have You Done To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Man the Amazon reviews are either "BEST STUFF EVER!!!" or "THIS STUFF DESTROYED MY CAR!!!!" with no in between.. I imagine there's a trick to application.

 

I'm back into a 4x4 for the first time in years, even if I only use it to pull out a couple FWD cars from the neighborhood snow banks it's worth having a kit at the ready!

We just got this box from Amazon to get the idea rolling, we might try and find a better bulk deal for the next round. $34 for 12 hats and 12 pair of gloves, so about $1.40 each. I suspect it will feel good and be appreciated to give those out.

Project Farm on youtube ended up with that as their recommendation for a trim restorer/protectant, good timing by you on that one since I also remembered that video while I worked yesterday. Their video on ceramic spray waxes gave me the itch to try the cheap turtle wax stuff.

I enjoy taking a day to detail the paintwork twice per year, so the "enjoyment/ease of use" to "cost/time" ratio is the balancing act I do, but I'm curious about how far ceramic coating tech will come in a few years. I know turtle wax isn't as strong as a real ceramic coating but if water beads up all winter, I'm good with it. I hope you see 200 washes before that coating fades, that would be several years for sure!

 

This is the other product he likes for quick spray. Seems to work pretty well. I ordered both to keep in the garage.

And not a shop, but another friend recommended this stuff. Havent tried, not sure I will. The taco is ceramic coated now and areas with the clear protectant (clear bra of sorts), but we have 2 other vehicles I will would like to keep purdy as well.

The only worry for me is that it seems to be only for paint work, I gotta have stuff that's OK on all plastic and rubber trim, as well as glass. I hate worrying about overspray. Have you noticed it stain anything that's not paint? Again, I'm all about the easy stuff cause I'll actually use it haha. I grew up using Nu Finish with my dad and that stuff is a nightmare compared to what's around today.

There are a few videos around on how to remove pretty much the entire interior, and the particular order/clip & fastener locations. Took maybe 30 mins to do it all carefully, but I've done most of it before. I would say 60-90 mins to remove most of the interior for first time.

 

I use Klasse All-In-One as a wash product, that stuff is amazing. It can be applied like a traditional wax as well, so if it really came down to it that would be the only product I use if I wanted to save some shelf space.

 

He said overspray wasn't an issue, and he literally was spraying the truck down once more with it when I went to pick it up. I have seen any issue. Maybe I will grab some spare plastic bits, spray and leave in the sun.

I used this on my bed rails and OEM bed cover. It went on perfect, with exception of the very last little bit by the tailgate. I had to light sand it with 800 grit and reapply. YES, there is a trick to it. Cool, low humidity day, out of direct sunlight. Put it on heavy, don't skimp, and don't go over it until the first coat has had time to dry.

 

As predicted, faith in the sticky was lack luster.... but at least just one side (fr driver). There is about 6-8" it just has no stick to, just in the center portion. Rest seem to have adhere'd fine.

Thoughts on sticky stuff? I have some VHB tape, but would need to trim and think it maybe to thick. I have some other 3m tape, but not sure if it is to thin.

 

I don't know his prep before I got there, but like said when we went got there to pick up the truck he used the Groit spray and the Ceramic trim coat pretty willy nilly as just a quick wipe before we left.

Time will tell. Right now the truck is smooth as babies bottom.

 

My two aussholes got a padded room in the back, with a hammock, naturally I had to order childproof seatbelt latch covers, because they like to unhook the seatbelts and fly out the windows…

 

This must have been what he had done, and when got there (long after drying and curing the rest of the work) just did a quick wipe down again. We are low humidity here and this was all done inside a shop.

 

Those are cool! We have the hammock style seat cover in the back for our mutts, but I like those side pieces. Are they separate or part of the cover? Either or where did you get them?

Got around to installing the 2017 Pro headlights I purchased from @Formidable. Turned out good and didn't break anything. Not something I want to do again any time soon, tho. The only hard part was getting the lower bumper piece detached and reattached along the seam below the side marker to get at that third bolt.

 

Had a 1000 mile check up, thought about rescheduling since I only have 400 miles on it but figured I would just get it done while I had some free time.
