across the board 300 mile range has been a benchmark

    rule o thumb

    conversational

    not poured in concrete

no one would truly run it to zero......................not sure what to do if it was a zero

road service would have to have trucks that could recharge on shoulders

I think there will only be a few early deliveries, and those will be dealer demos. Those dates may be pushed back, and that's if everything is on schedule. I see Ford advertising that their new plants for the Lightning wont be up and running until 2025. I think that will be the earliest projection for F150 lightning orders to be fulfilled, and units that haven't been presold sitting on lots available for sale.

That's if things don't change, and I think manufacturers are looking towards that change.

It’s called vehicle to vehicle (V2V) charging and it is something Rivian is talking about. People “run it to zero” all the time trying to do things that their car constantly warns them that they won’t be able to accomplish. I’ve been at a Tesla supercharger 3 times when a flat bed tow truck rolled in with a dead car. At least one of the owners said he got a warning that he wasn’t going to make it when he left the last supercharger, after not charging enough, and thought he could.

You missed the part about lots of warnings. You’d have to be an idiot to get yourself into that position.

My personal bet is I would end up with a 2023 lightning. I anticipate the automotive supply chain will continue to be constrained well into 2022. They will also be trying to ramp up production.

My coworkers 2021 model year for his Bronco is now a 2022 model year.

I don't mind, let them settle out the line and supply chain. Fortunately as of today my other vehicles are solid, although with 80,000 and 130,000 miles on them they have some recent repairs. That's to be expected and is cheaper by a mile than replacing vehicles.

Wait till those tailgates get banged up and the owners see the replacement costs.

Here's the math I used to put an electric truck into perspective for me. The fuel costs for my Tacoma to drive 50k miles at its 17mpg average and the $4 average I've been paying lately is $11,765. To drive an electric truck 50k miles that gets 300 miles from a 135kwh battery pack at my current household electricity rate would cost $2,436. Saving $9000 over the course of 3-5 years isn't amazing but is still fairly significant.

Not having to go to the gas station (or charger, in the case of an EV), unless you are traveling out of town saves more time than you realize. In my case, in Oregon you have to wait around for them to get around to pumping your gas so it doesn’t matter how fast you can pump gas because you aren’t.

For those running out of power on the side of the road, there will be quick charge vehicles available to charge them up and distribute hot towels (or cold) while you wait.

Well every state allows ICE vehicles to be towed that are parked illegally in a EV charging spot but ICEholes will still park in the spots.

That's why people who can't add or subtract should buy any EV.

Quick charge vehicles have been around since there have been cars. There're called tow trucks. I saw a youtube on a quick charger saving a rental Tesla. My thought is the quick charger was an expensive hassle. In the time it took to charge the car enough to get to a super charger a tow truck could have loaded, driven to a supercharger, unloaded and added about 100 miles of range. Any car can run out of gas, I've done it twice. Twice because I'm a dumb ass and sometimes can't learn my life lessons in one try. However, twice is enough and I haven't run out in over 20 years, because it is a FUCKING hassle.
