I found a rattle in my truck and it has turned out to be one of the heat shields. Haven’t been able to climb under and remove it …..

Give it a wiggle and see if it’s loose

 

The symptoms are vibes in the front drive train while driving. If the vibes disappear when you put it in 4 high, it is caused by the needle bearing.

I’m gonna look for a video. Just trying to learn more as my truck gets older . I can’t imagine it would be too difficult to fix with the required tool for the job

 

Yes. Moderate or worse. If you're under warranty, it should be covered. But Toyota will typically want to replace the old needle bearing with a new one. The new needle bearing is not a good fix because it has been known to fail again in many cases. The best solution is just to get the ECGS bearing and fix it permanently.

 

Correct. The tool is relatively expensive but there are several folks on this forum that have been known to pay it forward. There are several threads addressing this if you do a search.

Getting a Tundra should fix the needle bearing problem you having for a while.

I noticed that the magnet on the front differential plug was very....fuzzy...looking or just more material on there than what I would expect. So around a 100k miles (40k lifted) I changed it out with the bushing.

 

@ReefSR54X4 how good is a carrier furnace? Have you had any issues with their Puron refrigerant?

 

I'll hook you up with the tools should you decide to replace the bearing with a bushing.
I made them so didn't cost me anything and also made a spare.
I wouldn't get too freaked out about doing the bushing. I'd see what the differential fluid looks like first...or the magnetic plug rather.
