Oh damn; that thing sticks out far enough that a rock can gain the leverage to break it off if you land on it.

Is it common enough that people break them off while off-roading?

Would have to be a perfect storm I think to hit it that way as the bolt follows the body of your vehicle versus parallel to the axle housing.

 

I've seen some bent ones and once in a while, one recently snapped off I've seen the mount part busted off when rusted.

I don't think many owners play as ruff as I do. I do have a new bolt and washer. I'll be out in the rocks again on the 14th and 15th.
