Considering switching back to a dumb phone (and commit to a tin foil hat haha) for many reasons. With much thought I think it may be healthier to get rid of a smart phone. Has anyone else made the switch back to a simpler phone? Any suggestions on which dumb phone to try?

Until just a few years ago my brother still had a 7-8 year old flip phone. When people saw him pull out the antenna they laughed, but he swore he could get a signal when the modern phones couldn’t and saw him prove it once in the mountains lol.

Nice! I am sure something more purpose built for phone calls will get better signal.

With Facebook down now is the time! I’d do it... I only have a work phone and that’s it. I enjoy not being bothered any more than necessary.

About 10 months ago I tried to make my iPhone as dumb as I could, deleting all the apps I didn't want or need, and hiding the ones I really didn't need to use. Using the widgets in the new ios I filled the screen with the few ones I wanted to still be accessible:

Never went to a smart phone to begin with and I manage just fine.
Never had the need or desire for one. Too many phone zombies as it is.

I've had a simple Samsung Rugby for nearly 10 years till AT$T decided to suddenly shut my 3G phone off back in August.
I bought a Sonim XP-3 in "renewed" condition off Amazon for less than 100 bucks. For "renewed" condition, it was a NIB condition phone.

It's a solid "military grade" flip phone that is water resistant and can be dropped.
Easy to use and loud volume.
Has features I will never use as I only get and make phone calls.
    Works for me.

    RIP old 3G Rugby...

Oh hahaha Facebook going down yesterday was kinda awesome. I have spent the last 2 weeks off social media besides this website. I feel so good without social media.

It’s not the phone, it’s you. Not trying to be a wise guy. I have nothing on my iPhone other than a sports app. I usually toss it to the side when home and even refuse to carry it while on vacation. I realized years ago while standing in line looking at social media that me starting at a screen like everyone else in line was pathetic. It was then I decided to delete all my social media accounts. That was over 5 years ago. I call my friends all the time. Even face time some of them. Everything else on this device is just a tool when I need it (music, gps, fantasy football updates lol). Anyway, sometimes I prefer to have my old style flip phones, but then I think about the nice features that eventually come in handy.

No doubt, my lack of self discipline to not mindlessly scroll through social media waiting on that next dopamine hit is the issue. To be fair to my dopamine addicted brain, those social media & phone engineers are clever SOB’s. I am also super tired of the constant attempt by many & the IRA to start arguments & create more political divisiveness.

#2 I will now put my tin foil hat on….So I have had too many experiences where I have said something to my wife & hours later I get a damn advertisement regarding the topic of conversation. Ahh hell no, this smart peeping phone is constantly listening & watching. It is more creepy than my teenage self was haha. An iPhone is a digital leash & collar. Designed to track our movements, listen & watch waiting for every opportunity make some advertisement dollars & “make life easier”. Call me crazy but the documentary “The Social Dilemma” scared the hell out of me.

After a week long hunt, time with family & no social media I feel great. I am happy to leave the shit show social media behind. Thank you for your honest input.

I deleted almost all the apps on my phone.
    Deleted my facebook account.

YOU BETTER BE WEARING YOUR TINFOIL HAT IF YOU'RE USING A SMART PHONE.

Had one of those for work until they gave me a Blackberry. Liked the Rugby so much, I got one for personal use. Didn't survive the second wash though and replaced it with the Rugby LTE. Has some smart features but I keep it dumb. Had it for over 8 years (and many drops, submersions etc) and still works like a champ. I pull it out and people look puzzled. Simply tell them it's a phone.

    Cheers.

Carried one like this until the invention of the cell phone. (actually looks like a nicer version of mine)

Some of us never gave up on the dumb phone. I'm currently rocking a Kyocera DuraXV. Let's see your smart phone do this:
