What are you referring to, OEM brands? No. They make OEM headlights for vehicles equipped with HIDs from the factory. But you can buy the OEM components and build a retrofit as you would with any other components. TRS sells the required parts. Retrofits are not legal (neither are replacement LEDs in halogen headlight assemblies) and the quality of the retrofit job may vary. A poor job using good components could still make a bad headlight. I’d recommend the OEM LED headlights for 3rd Gen as a plug and play option with the adapter harness. But if looking to retrofit, OEM components are they way to go.

For people like me unfamiliar with RX350, there is no actual assembly which can be used, correct? It’s a retrofit of the RX350 projector into a Tacoma halogen assembly. Am I understanding things right? I remember ruling it out quickly but I’ve become more curious about understanding it since this latest round of testing.

I also bought 2 sets at $7.71. I guess they saw the sudden demand and raised the price. Luckily both of mine came in the same package.

Correct. Unless the vehicle had an HID option from the factory, there are no HID assemblies available. You must put an HID projector into the factory halogen assembly. RX350 projectors:

    I have all
    Components from trs
And yet again I’m having an issue with one of the lights coming in every time I turn them on, i have to toggle on and off to get it to work. I’d like to make my setup more reliable. I have what I was told are rx350 projectors(the housings are plastic so idk if they’re genuine) and moritomoto everything else. Should I scrap what I have and start from scratch or is the harness at least worth keeping?

I can’t say if your projectors are genuine, but your issue lies with the electrical components and not the projector. Failure to ignite is either ballast, igniter or bulb. To diagnose the issue swap a single type of component at a time to the other side, such as swap the igniters. If the problem swaps sides you’ve identified the faulty part. If not, you’ve ruled that part out from being faulty. Personally I’d scrap all the Morimoto components and replace with quality gear, though that isn’t necessary to fix this specific issue but it will likely be just time till the next issue arises. As for the harness, I’d keep it. The only thing to fail on a harness is the relay. I’d look to swap out what is surely a Chinese relay for a European Bosch unit, which again is an OEM supplier.

    ok cool
Yea I actually have an extra wire harness too
I have back up ballasts, and bulbs
I’d just need the same bulb and ballast plug that my harness is to be able to reuse the harness right?
    Sorry if I’m babbling

Sylvania does have some ok engineers, which is exactly why they specifically do not recommend putting low output fog LEDs in your headlights. But you just cannot help yourself and make recommendations directly counter to the manufacture thinking you know better, when you have made it blatantly obvious with this posts and your previous ones that you don't. I'd guess this is a sad attention cry for youtube hits maybe? Maybe take it to a forum that doesn't follow lighting science, you'd have significantly better luck than here. Or for a real eye opener, go pitch your nonsense on the Candlepower forum.

LEDs can be better with an OEM LED headlight assembly, designed from the ground up for LEDs with no replaceable bulbs/components. Read this article:
    https://jalopnik.com/why-most-led-headlight-upgrades-dont-really-work-an-ex-1843070472
No seriously, read it. It has one of the world's top headlight experts explain to you why those replacement LED products don't actually work. And interestingly enough, references this very thread as a legitimate example.

All your statements are based on your personal feelings. Mine are based on science backed by measured data. If you are so set on LEDs, the correct answer is OEM LED headlight assemblies covered in post #3626 here. You can thank me later, though you likely won't be able to.

The RX350 projectors will bolt into the existing housing where the original projector is mounted. However this does require removing the lens off the headlight which is not fun since OEM 3rd gen headlights are permaseal. Headlights that use butyl as the lens sealant are far easier, though only aftermarket 3rd gen headlights use butyl and the bolt pattern is different for the projector.

Crash, I’m getting my OEM led lights for my 16 Tacoma today.
My buddy had a 16 tundra pro supercharged and wants to upgrade to led. I see that they have a harness to convert to OEM led’s for his truck.
Is this OEM led the best upgrade for that application...?
    Thanks in advance.

In saying this, I'd be curious to see how Toyota's other reflector-style OEM LED headlights compare to the Tacoma OEM LED. I know they're used in the Rav4 and Tundra in a reflector-style housing. Do we know who makes them for Toyota?

Out of pure curiosity, would anyone have a photo of what the "bulb" of an OEM LED projector light looks like? My wife drives a 2019 Subaru Forested with OEM projector headlights and I have to say they are some of the most incredible headlights I've driven with. Mind you, I don't drive high-end luxury cars. But for an family crossover, I was blown away at how good they were.

To the best of my knowledge Valeo produces Toyota and Subaru headlights and fog lights (except the rigid branded ones of course). However Kioto is the manufacture of the majority of the projectors inside the headlights, as far as reflector based LED headlights, I haven't done much digging to see who makes the optics/internals.

For sure, there are far more difficult ones to open up. But for a first timer the 3rd gen Tacoma headlights are quite challenging! A buddy of mine tired Morimoto's Permatrator and that stuff has to be used VERY carefully. A little got on the lens and it made the plastic extremely brittle, even without prying on that area it made some hairline fissures in the lens. But this was in 2016 before there was anyone with tutorials for disassembly how-to's and he was going at it with limited knowledge in both this community and retrofit communities about the 3rd gen headlights.
