Sorry for digging up an old(er) thread, but just wanted to see if anyone with newer vehicles (2020) was also experiencing this? My new 2020 SR5 seems to have some hood movement at highway speed. It doesn't bother me a ton, but I don't want to deal with long term paint damage as a result of this.

Mine has it. Dealership offered to replace but new hoods comes unpainted. Hell no will I rely on a body shop to match and fade my new truck. Just shoved some foam in the gaps and is tolerable.

So what's the long term implications of this? I was thinking of this thin metal flexing and fluttering, and its impact on the pain. This is a poor design but I think it predates this gen even. I had a fluttering hood on my 96 too. I have a 19 now and it's done it since day one and I've confirmed that most of the contact points on my hood have separated. About 14k miles.

My dealer blew it off twice when I brought it up. I'm worried eventually the clear coat will fail from the flexing of the panel.

I plan on fixing it myself in a few weeks when the weather is warmer.

This is the way. I used the 3m nvh.

    Some tips..
    * Put a drop cloth over the engine bay. This stuff is way runnier than you expect and is a bitch to get off of things. The stuff I used wasn't what I'd call runny, but it seemed a little bit thinner than caulk. Couple that with being under pressure from the caulk gun and also being at a weird angle. Bottom line. You are going to drip.
    * If I had to do it over again, I'd use painters tape on the back side of the openings to keep the nvh from going all the way through and... dripping.
    * Have some good light
    * Pay close attention to where the hood is actually fluttering so you can be sure to hit those exact spots. Push down slightly on the hood before you start and match that up to the inner braces.
    * I used 1 tube of the nvh. 2 would have been better but it's not cheap. 1 will get most of the spots. 2 will get all of the gaps, even the ones that don't cause fluttering.

Finally caved and bought the 3M NVH and applicator gun, should be here tomorrow. I hope to do this fix over the weekend if the weather is nice. Thanks for these tips!

Anyone have any long term updates on if their DIY fixes have held up?

awesome! Did you just reapply at the factory spots or did you do the entire seams like some others in this thread?

I have a 2021 and waiting for it to go in and get the hood replaced for the vibrating issue of the adhesive failing. Just over $2k and body shop said 8 days in shop. Yeah, 8 days..

    Warranty covered.

Just took my 2021 in for the 5000 mile check. I told them about the hood vibrating on the passenger side. The took it over to the body shop to have it looked at. The body shop found more adhesive that has/is failing. They said the will have to remove the hood rebound hood and repaint. Ugh.

Fix it yourself for 100 bucks or get them to do the repair and skip the repaint. I wouldn't trust a body shop to repaint the hood on a brand new truck.

Aftermarket paint jobs are never as good as OEM.

The repaint would be on the underside. Still not sure what I will do. It drives me nuts

Just got mine back after a week in the body shop, they replaced the hood. I was told they couldn't properly fix it and it needed to be replaced. Mine vibrated quite a bit on bot sides.

Update, opened the hood yesterday and noticed the body shop didn't paint the underside of it. Stopped by and asked if that is normal as I know my stock hood was painted, they still had the hood so they verified and told me sorry and they'll schedule me back in for having it done. *sigh*

I should have just squirted some sillycone in there and been done.

Incredible, shady workmanship!, how are we supposed to trust them when they obviously took a shortcut.

This is why many of us dont trust them to start with. My hood has been flapping for awhile now, but Im not going to let the dealer make it worse with hack glue job or let a body shop paint a new hood that probably wont even match.

Yup, just do it yourself. That way you know it'll be done right with the right adhesive.

I used the whole tube on my hood and not only fixed the original areas that broke loose, but was also able to reinforce other areas that didn't have any adhesive contact points between the hood and skin brace.

Also don't have to worry about scratches, door dings, etc. from the dealer.

To be fair, I didn't take it to the local dealership to get fixed as I don't like them. I had it done through a different well known shop. I bout my truck from a dealership an over an hour away and take it to one 45 minutes away for service. Local dealer is 15 minutes. I was going to fix it myself although didn't pay $40k to do my own fixup. Hindsight...

I'm hoping this loaded with sarcasm as most of us on here haven't trusted the dealer for some time.

My hood has been a problem since I bought it in 2018, the first dealer was a pain to deal with and couldn't even get the bodyshop guys to call back. Second dealer looks at it and try's to fix it using the wrong adhesive which promptly fails and then re-does it with the correct glue (I think) and now their latest attempt is not adhering because of the old adhesive.
