Ok I looked at and appreciate the links. I may have to start over with a new structure and find a better place for it.

I'm too lazy to look it up right now, but IIRC, Pennsylvania has a helluva lot of road mileage compared to population.
Much of that mileage consists of local township roads.
When I was a kid, a lot of those township roads were dirt/gravel.

By contrast, just across the border from me in Maryland, road density is less and the roads are all state maintained.
And they're better maintained too.

Okay, so none of that really bears on why our roads are so shitty.
But PennDot has been a byword for incompetence and corruption for as long as I can remember.
True or not.

I have a fun fact for you:
Pennsylvania has a very high proportion of retirees.
People who were born here are resistant to moving elsewhere.
For all we joke about it, Pennsylvania is an unpretentious, down home place... pretty much.

I came up with a new slogan that I’m going to submit to the state. It goes: Pennsylvania, a great place to F### for the rest of your life.
